But what you did not realize is that the seed phrase you used for the test was the same one that holds 90% of your assets. Every entry you typed, every website you connected to, and every page you saved as a screenshot during the test could leave a trail back to your real assets.

Testing an inheritance plan must be done with a separate small wallet. This is not optional. It is a basic security line.

Why should you never test with your main wallet?

Testing is essentially "simulating the recovery process in a real environment." But the simulation itself can expose information:

How to verify after completing the steps

After doing all the steps above, run a final check:

  1. Take out the complete written instructions you gave your heir, and only look at the instructions. Do not rely on extra hints.

  2. Use the test wallet's seed phrase and follow the instructions to complete the full recovery flow again.

  3. Record every place where you got stuck—for example, "I had to look three times to find this button" or "I did not know how long this step would take." Rewrite those unclear parts into clear steps that cannot be misunderstood.

  4. Confirm that the "test wallet" and "main wallet" seed phrases have not been mixed up: You have two sets of seed phrases. One is for testing and has been destroyed or stored separately. The other controls the real assets. The instructions for your heir should clearly say: "A small test wallet was used for this drill. After recovery, the address should be XXXX. Only after verifying it is correct should you operate the main wallet."

Repeat this test process every 12 months. Your hardware wallet firmware will update, the interface will change, and the contact person you left for your heir may also change. An inheritance plan that has not been tested for two years is almost the same as having no plan.
