How to Top Up When Gas Sponsorship Fails on BNB Chain Transfers
Gas sponsorship failure essentially means the current address doesn't have enough BNB to cover network fees, unrelated to the sponsorship feature itself. The only way to top up is: send enough BNB mainnet coins to the address that initiated the transfer.

First, understand a key concept: Gas fees don't accept stablecoins
On BNB Chain, all transaction fees (gas fees) can only be paid with BNB. The USDT, USDC, or other tokens in your wallet, no matter the balance, cannot be used to pay network fees.
If you get a prompt "insufficient network fee" or "Gas balance is not enough" when initiating a transfer, there's only one reason — the BNB balance in this wallet address is lower than the estimated gas fee.
We need to differentiate: transactions on BNB Chain use BNB (BEP-20 Binance Coin), while transactions on other chains require their respective mainnet tokens. Since you're using BNB Chain, you must use BNB.
Steps to top up
Prerequisite: You need some BNB available somewhere you control — such as a Binance exchange account, another wallet, or purchased directly via bank card.
Path 1: Withdraw BNB from Binance exchange to your current wallet
This is the most common method.
Log in to the Binance app or website, go to [Wallet] - [Spot Account].
Search for "BNB", tap [Withdraw].
Enter the wallet address from which you initiated the transfer as the withdrawal address.
Select network BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) — do not choose the wrong network, or you'll lose the coins.
Enter the amount of BNB you need to top up (suggest at least 0.01 BNB, depending on the gas fee your transaction requires).
Complete the withdrawal, wait 1–3 minutes for block confirmation, then go back to your wallet and resubmit the transfer.
Completion standard: The BNB balance shows in the wallet address and when you retry the transfer, the "insufficient network fee" prompt no longer appears.
Path 2: Transfer BNB from another wallet
If you have BNB in another address, simply send it to your current wallet address. The steps are standard inter-wallet transfer — select BNB Chain network, fill in the correct receiving address, confirm.
Path 3: Use OKX Wallet's Gas Station (OKX Web3 Wallet only)
If you're using OKX Web3 Wallet with app version 6.166.0 or above, you can pay gas fees directly with stablecoins (USDC, USDT, or USDG).
How to: On the OKX Wallet App [Confirm Send] page, tap [Gas Station] → choose payment currency → tap [Confirm]. The system will first cover the mainnet coin, then deduct the equivalent fee from your stablecoin. This way you don't need to hold BNB beforehand.
Common failure reasons (not sponsorship issues)
BNB is on the wrong mainnet account: Some users keep BNB in Binance's "Funding Account" or "Earn Account", but their on-chain wallet address shows zero balance. Exchange assets must be withdrawn to an on-chain address first to pay gas fees.
BNB is on another chain: If you hold BNB on Ethereum (ERC-20) or BNB Beacon Chain (BEP-2), those can't be used on BNB Smart Chain. Only BEP-20 BNB works.
BNB is not refunded after a failed transaction: If a transaction fails, the gas fee already consumed is not refunded. If it fails, make sure you've topped up BNB, then resubmit.
Risk reminders
Check gas fee estimates: When initiating a transfer in a wallet, the page will show the estimated gas fee amount, usually only a few hundredths of a BNB. If the estimate is abnormally high, the network might be congested; consider trying later.
Don't mix up address and network: When withdrawing BNB from an exchange, make sure the withdrawal network is BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) and the receiving address is your current wallet address. Choosing the wrong network can lead to permanent loss of funds.

Confirmation of completion
After topping up BNB, go back to your wallet and resubmit the previously failed transfer. If the order can enter the signature confirmation step normally, it means the BNB is sufficient to cover the gas fee. Then proceed to confirm the transaction as usual.
