What to Look for in Smart Money Signals
The core logic of smart money signals is that the algorithm identifies a group of blockchain addresses with historically high returns on investment. When a certain number of these addresses buy the same token within a short period, a signal is triggered. Binance's official explanation specifically notes that the algorithm excludes addresses with "abnormal or suspected bot activity."
The signal itself contains several fields worth attention. The lifecycle metric shows the percentage of smart money addresses that have already sold the token since the signal was issued. A rising number means early buyers are exiting. The token narrative is an AI-generated summary that provides background information about the token. Some signals also include a mini candlestick chart showing price movement before and after the signal was triggered.
There is a time gap that is easy to overlook: by the time you see the signal, smart money may have already finished buying for a while. Signals are displayed only after they are "triggered," and on-chain transaction confirmation, algorithm identification, and data aggregation all take time. The higher the smart money exit rate, the greater the risk caused by this time gap.
What to Look for in Sentiment Signals
The data source for sentiment signals is currently limited to X only. The official statement says other social platforms are planned for future versions. The algorithm tracks public posts about a specific token on X, analyzes mention volume, sentiment classification (positive/negative/neutral), percentage growth in heat, and generates an AI discussion summary.
The way "heat" is quantified is as follows: if a token is widely discussed and the related content has high view and share counts, the social heat score rises. But high heat does not mean the price will go up. A token may be heavily discussed because someone is promoting it, or because it has negative news. The value of sentiment classification lies in distinguishing between these two situations, but AI has limited ability to judge sarcasm, irony, and complex context.
Where Do False Signals Come From
False signals have two layers of meaning and should be treated separately.
The first layer is scams outside the platform. On Binance Square, Telegram, and WhatsApp, many individuals or groups post "trading signals." They first give one or two signals that appear accurate for free, then charge 40%–50% of profits as a fee, and eventually disappear with your money. These signals have nothing to do with the Signal feature in Binance Wallet. Signal is an algorithm-based aggregation feature inside the wallet. It is free and never asks users for a profit share.
The second layer is the limitation of the signal feature itself. The official FAQ clearly states that smart money signals are "not predictive," and the information provided "should not be considered financial advice." The "smartness" of smart money addresses is a statistical description of past performance. It cannot be used to infer that this particular buy will also be correct. An address may have had a high win rate in the past because it was lucky, because it caught a trend in a certain cycle, or because its strategy worked under specific market conditions but fails in a different environment. The algorithm excludes bot addresses, but it cannot exclude human addresses that are "following the crowd" or "misled."
False signals in sentiment signals come more from noise. Discussion volume on X can be bought, and KOL mentions may be paid promotions. The algorithm can identify that "heat is rising," but it cannot identify "why heat is rising."
How to Use Signal Reasonably
Signal is positioned as an information filtering tool, not a decision-making tool. It can help you narrow your attention from thousands of tokens to a few that the algorithm considers "worth a look," but whether they are worth buying requires your own judgment.
If you decide to reference a signal, do at least three things: check the smart money exit rate. If it is already high, the entry timing may have passed by the time you see it. Check whether the token narrative makes sense. If the AI summary is full of vague buzzwords with no specific product, team, or use case, the heat is likely empty. Check whether you understand the token yourself. Signal will not tell you whether its contract has a backdoor, whether liquidity is locked, or whether the team is anonymous.
One final point: between the time a signal is triggered and the time you can actually buy, the price may have already moved. When smart money addresses buy, the slippage, gas fees, and quoted prices are all different from what you see. The "maximum increase after signal trigger" shown on Signal is historical data, not a return you can capture.
