Whether you should enable Soft Staking depends on how you handle idle tokens in your spot account. It does not lock your assets—you can sell or withdraw anytime—and rewards are automatically distributed to your spot account every day. If you already hold supported tokens like BNB, SOL, or ETH and have no other plans for them, enabling it will not interfere with your trading, and keeping it off does not add extra risk. It is a simple one-click switch where you do not lose by turning it on, but you also do not miss much by leaving it off. However, there is one easily overlooked cost: once enabled, the BNB in your spot account will no longer automatically qualify for activities such as Launchpool or HODLer airdrops.

What Soft Staking Actually Does
Binance's official Help Center defines Soft Staking as a way to earn staking rewards directly in your spot account while maintaining full flexibility—you can trade, withdraw, or use your assets at any time. This sounds like earning interest without doing anything, but there is one subtle difference worth clarifying first.
According to Binance.US's Soft Staking explanation, the platform takes 90% of the staking rewards generated from your eligible idle assets as a service fee, and users actually receive 10%. This is the fee structure of Binance.US, not the global version of Binance. The global Binance Help Center does not list a service fee percentage for Soft Staking. It only states that participating in Soft Staking requires no extra fees and that the displayed APR is what you receive daily in your spot account. If you use the global version of Binance, the terms applicable to your account region apply. Do not directly apply the 10% rate from the US site.
Regarding where funds go, Binance clearly states in its announcements and terms that once you subscribe to Soft Staking, your eligible assets are no longer held in your spot account but are allocated by Binance for on-chain staking. However, the interface will still display these assets in your spot account for balance viewing and operations. Binance reserves the right to delay returns in extreme situations—if a large number of users withdraw Soft Staking assets at the same time and the on-chain locked amount exceeds the liquidity Binance manages, returns may be affected.
How Rewards Are Calculated and When They Arrive
Interest calculation starts from 00:00 UTC the day after you activate Soft Staking. Rewards are calculated based on the daily average balance of eligible tokens in your spot account. The formula is:
Daily Reward = Soft Staking Amount × APR ÷ 365
The APR is not fixed and fluctuates daily. The first reward is distributed to your spot account on the second day after activation, and then once every day between 00:00 and 08:00 UTC. The official note also mentions that network delays or system calculations may cause distribution delays.
Frozen assets do not earn interest. Spot orders that are pending, as well as BNB locked in Launchpool, do not participate in Soft Staking reward calculations.
If You Enable Soft Staking, Your BNB Airdrops Are Gone
This is the most practical factor when deciding whether to turn it on or off.
The Binance Help Center clearly states: If your BNB is participating in Soft Staking, it will not automatically qualify for Launchpool, HODLer airdrops, or Megadrop rewards. The reason is that BNB in Soft Staking remains in your spot account but is not subscribed to Simple Earn flexible or locked products. To participate in Launchpool or Megadrop, you need to manually subscribe your BNB to the corresponding product within the specified subscription period.
In other words, Soft Staking and BNB ecosystem airdrops are mutually exclusive. If your main purpose for holding BNB is to participate in new token launches and airdrops, you should turn off Soft Staking and keep your BNB in your spot account, then manually invest it when Launchpool opens. If you hold BNB only for interest or as trading margin, Soft Staking's APR is not high (BNB estimated around 0.08%), but it is better than nothing.
How to Enable and Disable
There are two entry points to enable it, and both work the same way:
Enable directly from your spot account:
Go to Profile → Assets → Spot.
Find the gray Sof t Staking tag next to an eligible token and click it.
Read and agree to the terms, then click Start Earning.
Enable from the Earn page:
Go to Earn → Simple Earn → Soft Staking.
Click Activate, agree to the terms, then click Start Earning.
After activation, the tag next to eligible tokens in your spot account will change from gray to yellow. You can view reward records on the Soft Staking page or in Staking History.
How to disable: Click Deactivate on the Soft Staking page or toggle the switch off. After disabling, your assets are released from on-chain staking and return to normal spot account status. Binance does not specify whether there is a waiting period for disabling, but given Soft Staking's "no lock-up period" design, disabling should take effect immediately.
Supported Tokens
As of the official page update, Soft Staking supports 19 tokens: ETH, BNB, SOL, ADA, TRX, TON, SUI, NEAR, APT, POL, ALGO, IOTA, AXS, EGLD, THETA, DASH, STRK, S, BABY. Each token has a minimum holding requirement and a reward cap. Amounts exceeding the cap do not earn interest. For example, ETH requires a minimum holding of 0.1 ETH, has a reward cap of 4000 ETH, and an estimated APR of about 0.50%. Tokens below the minimum holding amount do not generate any rewards.
Regional Restrictions
Soft Staking is not available to US persons, US entities, or individuals in sanctioned countries. Additionally, Binance may restrict access for users in certain regions due to product limitations or regulatory requirements. If you cannot see the Soft Staking entry in your region, it means you are not currently eligible, and there is no need to try repeatedly.

One-Sentence Verdict
If you hold supported tokens, do not plan to use BNB for new token launches, and do not mind your assets being "nominally" transferred from your spot account to Binance for on-chain staking, then turn it on. Enabling it does not affect your ability to sell or withdraw at any time, and rewards are automatically credited daily. If your main intention for holding BNB is Launchpool or airdrops, turn it off. Airdrop rewards are usually much higher than Soft Staking's 0.08% APR. Giving up airdrop eligibility for that little interest is not worth it.
