Should Korean Users Choose Phone Number or Email for Binance Registration?

For Korean users, when registering, the core difference between choosing a phone number or email lies in whether your phone number can reliably receive international SMS. Considering the filtering of international SMS by local Korean carriers and the long-term accessibility of your account, it is strongly recommended to prioritize using an email (e.g., Gmail, Outlook) for registration.

Phone Number vs Email: Pros and Cons

  • Phone Number: The registration process is simple, but the risk is that if you lose your phone, change carriers, or cannot receive verification SMS from overseas, you may be unable to log into your account. Some Korean carriers may intercept or delay international SMS, increasing the risk of not receiving the verification code.

  • Email: Highly stable, unaffected by carrier or number changes. As long as you can access your email, you can receive verification codes. Moreover, after registration, you can still bind a Korean phone number (+82) as a backup verification method in the security settings; the two do not conflict.

For users who prioritize long-term account security and stability, email is the more suitable choice.

Registration and Key Setup Steps

  1. Registration Process: Select the "Email Registration" option, enter your email address and password, and check for the verification code to complete basic registration. If using a phone number, select "Korea (the Republic of)" from the "Country/Region" dropdown menu, and the system will automatically match the country code +82.

  2. Security Configuration: After registration, be sure to complete KYC identity verification as soon as possible to unlock trading and deposit/withdrawal functions. Additionally, it is recommended to bind Google Authenticator in the [Security Settings] for two-factor authentication, which is more secure than SMS verification codes and avoids issues with receiving international SMS.

  3. Bind Phone Number: After completing email registration, you can add your +82 phone number as a backup verification method at any time in the [Security Settings].

Things to Note

  • App Download Restrictions: Since January 28, 2026, Google Play has restricted updates for overseas crypto apps not registered with the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). New users are advised to complete registration and basic trading via the web version.

  • Cannot Receive SMS Verification Code: If you choose phone number registration but cannot receive the verification code, first check whether you have removed the leading "0" from the phone number (e.g., 010-1234-5678 should be entered as 1012345678). If you still cannot receive it, use email registration to avoid the issue.

After completing email registration, receiving verification codes via email is the primary method, while the phone number is used for emergency backup verification, not for daily login reliance.
