Should UK Users Register for Binance with Email or Phone Number?

We recommend registering with email and then binding a UK phone number (+44) as an additional verification layer. Email offers stronger account recovery and security advantages over a phone number alone, while a linked phone number provides SMS verification codes and security alerts as a necessary complement. They are not mutually exclusive – choose one at sign-up, then add the other in the Security Centre afterwards.

1. Core Differences Between Email and Phone Registration

What to do: Compare the two methods on security, account recovery, and usage scenarios to decide the best approach.

How to do it: Refer to the comparison table below:

Comparison Point Email Registration Phone Number Registration
Account Recovery Ability Strong – can independently reset password, unaffected by carrier changes Weak – requires additional appeal process if you change your number
Verification Code Stability Relies on email provider (Gmail/Outlook recommended) Relies on telecom carrier (roaming, unpaid bills, SIM swap can disrupt)
Security Isolation Can set up a dedicated Binance-only email, isolated from other platforms Phone number often linked to many services, higher leak risk
Registration Compatibility Binance supports all major global email providers Binance supports UK phone numbers (+44)

Binance allows registration by either email or phone number, so you don't need a phone number to create an account. Best practice in the industry is to set up a dedicated email for each exchange to isolate accounts and reduce cross-platform data leak risks.

When is this step done?: You understand that email is more reliable for security and recovery, and you decide to use email as your primary registration method.

2. Register Your Binance Account with Email

What to do: Complete Binance account registration using a dedicated email.

How to do it:

  • Prepare an email address not shared with other platforms. Gmail, Outlook or ProtonMail are all recommended first choices.

  • Visit the Binance official website binance.com or open the official app, and tap "Register".

  • Select "Register with Email" and enter your email address.

  • Check your inbox for the 6‑digit verification code, then enter and submit it within 30 minutes.

  • Set a password: at least 8 characters, including 1 uppercase letter and 1 number.

  • If you have a referral code, enter it in the optional field.

When is this step done?: Account successfully created and you're directed to the KYC verification page.

Prerequisites: Your email can receive messages normally, and you have enabled two‑step verification on your email account itself.

Common failure reasons:

  • Using an email provider classified as high‑risk (some domestic free providers); switch to Gmail or Outlook.

  • Verification code entered after the 30‑minute expiry; request a new code.

You can also register with a phone number, but email has clear advantages in account recovery and security.

3. Bind a UK Phone Number (+44) for Two‑Factor Authentication

What to do: After registration, add your UK mobile number in Security Settings to receive verification codes and security alerts.

How to do it:

  • Log into your Binance account and go to "Security Centre".

  • Find the "Phone Number Binding" option, select country code +44 (UK international dialling code).

  • Enter your UK mobile number omitting the leading "0" – for example, 0779 123 4567 should be entered as 779 123 4567.

  • Receive the SMS verification code, enter it, and complete the binding.

When is this step done?: Your account now has both email and phone number verified, showing both in your security settings.

Prerequisites: Your UK mobile number can receive SMS verification codes normally.

Common failure reasons:

  • Adding an extra "0" – the system treats the "0" as part of the number rather than the dialling code.

  • Your phone is roaming, has no credit, or is suspended, so cannot receive international SMS.

Risk reminders:

  • Do not use the same mobile number across too many high‑risk platforms to reduce data exposure.

  • Never use a number previously used on SMS verification platforms to register with Binance.

4. Enable Two‑Factor Authentication (2FA) to Complete Security Setup

What to do: Add a third layer of protection on top of email and phone number.

How to do it:

  • Go to "Account Security" or "Security Centre".

  • Select "Enable Google Authenticator" or "Binance Authenticator".

  • Download the authenticator app and scan the QR code to link your account.

  • Back up the setup key – write it down on paper or store it securely offline; if you lose your phone you can regain access with this key.

When is this step done?: 2FA is successfully bound and your security settings page shows all three verifications enabled (email, phone number, 2FA).

Next steps: Log in to the Binance app or website and complete registration with your phone number bound. Immediately after registration, do the following in Security Centre: 1) Bind your UK phone number (+44); 2) Enable Google Authenticator (2FA) and write down the backup key; 3) Complete KYC identity verification to unlock full trading features. For KYC you will need to submit UK proof of address or identity documents – make sure your registered region matches your document information.
