What to Prepare When Re-submitting Expired Documents?
After your document expires, you need to prepare three things: a new valid document, clear photos that meet Binance's requirements, and confirmation that your account can be logged in normally to receive verification codes. Before you begin, make sure you have the new document in hand, because Binance's update process will immediately switch your account to "Withdrawal Only" mode the moment you submit your application.
Prerequisites
Before gathering materials, confirm two things:
Your new document has been issued. Replacement times vary: a new Chinese mainland ID usually takes 15 working days, a passport takes 7–30 working days. If you start the process before the new document is in your hands, you will get stuck halfway.
You can log in to your Binance account and receive verification codes. You must be able to receive codes sent to your registered email and phone number.
Step 1: Confirm the New Document's Status and Prepare Photos
What to do: Take out your newly issued valid document, verify that it is fully activated and usable, and take photos that meet the requirements.
How to do it:
Confirm activation: After obtaining the new document, check that all information (name, ID number, issue date, expiration date) is completely correct. Some documents (such as national ID cards) may have an activation delay; it is recommended to submit for verification on the day after the "issue date" shown on the document to ensure the system can query the updated status information.
Photo requirements:
Photograph the original: Use your phone to take a photo of the original new document directly. Screenshots, re-photographed copies, photocopies, or scans are not accepted.
Four corners complete: Make sure all four corners of the document appear within the frame, with no cropping.
Clear and no glare: Shoot in sufficient light, avoid flash causing glare, and ensure the text and photo on the document are legible.
Both sides needed: If the document has a front and back (e.g., an ID card), take photos of both sides.
Completion standard: Your new document is confirmed valid, and you have clear, complete, glare-free photos of both sides saved on your phone.
Step 2: Find the "Update Identity Verification" Entry and Start the Process
What to do: Log in to your Binance account, go to the identity verification page, and find the update entry.
How to do it:
Binance's official support pages offer several ways to enter the "Update Identity Verification" process:
Option A (Web): Log in to the Binance website, hover over the avatar icon in the top-right corner, click [Account], go to the [Identity Verification] page, and click [Update Identity Information].
Option B (App): Log in to the Binance App, tap the avatar icon in the top-left corner of the home screen, enter account information, tap [Verification], and then tap [Update Identity].
Option C (Customer Support): If you cannot find the entry on the page, you can contact online customer support through the Binance App or website and enter your update request. The system will automatically reply with a jump link to reset your KYC.
Completion standard: Successfully entering the "Update Identity" page, where you see a drop-down menu with update reasons.
On the update page, you need to select the reason from the drop-down menu. For expired documents, select Document expired. Choosing the wrong reason may cause your submission to be rejected.
Step 3: Confirm the Declaration and Upload Your New Document
What to do: Read and agree to the declaration terms, then upload the photos of your new document and fill in the information.
How to do it:
Read and confirm the declaration: Carefully read the declaration content on the page, tick the box for [I understand and agree to this declaration], and click [Confirm Update].
Select document type and issuing country/region: Choose the type of document you are uploading (ID card/passport/driver's license) and the issuing country.
Upload new document photos: Follow the on-screen instructions to upload the front and back photos of the new document you prepared in Step 1.
Fill in/confirm information: The system will automatically extract the information from the document. You need to check that your name, ID number, and expiration date match the original document exactly. If there is any discrepancy, correct it manually.
Completion standard: New document photos uploaded, information checked and filled in correctly, then click [Continue].
Step 4: Complete Facial Recognition and Submit for Review
What to do: After uploading the document, complete facial recognition (liveness detection) to confirm that you are the person making the operation.
How to do it:
Remove hats, glasses, masks, or other face coverings.
Operate in a well-lit environment with a clean background.
Align your face with the viewfinder and follow the on-screen prompts (blinking, turning your head, etc.).
Binance identity verification has a daily attempt limit. If you fail consecutively, you will need to wait 24 hours before trying again.
Completion standard: Facial recognition passes, and the page shows "Submitted successfully" or "Under review".
Step 5: Wait for Review and Watch for Results
What to do: After submission, wait for the Binance review team to process it.
How to do it:
Once approved, Binance will send a notification email to your registered email address.
If rejected, the page will show the reason for rejection (e.g., unclear photo, mismatched information). Correct the issues based on the instructions and resubmit.
If automatic review fails repeatedly, the page may open a channel for "manual review". Processing time is usually 24–72 hours.
Completion standard: You receive the Binance approval email, the status on the identity verification page returns to "Verified", and your account functions return to normal.
Common Reasons for Failure
Unacceptable new document photo: Using a screenshot, rephoto, or a photo that is blurry, shows glare, or is missing corners.
Information entered does not match the document: The name or ID number you filled in differs from the original, even an extra space or incorrect capitalization can cause a mismatch failure.
Facial recognition fails: Wearing glasses or a hat, lighting too dark, or shadows on the face.
Wrong or unsupported document type: Selecting the wrong document type, or using a non-standard document such as a temporary ID card.
Risk Notice
After you submit an update application, your account will be immediately restricted to "Withdrawal Only" mode. You will not be able to trade or deposit until the review is passed. Please handle any necessary trades before starting the process.
If your document has expired and you do not update it in time, Binance's system will restrict your account functions. If the update is not completed within the given timeframe (usually 180 days), your withdrawal function may be affected.
Do not submit false or someone else's document. Binance will perform facial comparison and document authenticity checks. Once fraud is detected, your account will be frozen.
After confirming that your new document is in hand and the photos are ready, log in to Binance, go to the [Identity Verification] page, and start the update. After submission, keep an eye on your registered email address; the review is usually completed within 1–3 working days. If you have not received any notification for more than 3 working days, you can contact online customer support to check the progress.
