What to Do When Binance Shows “Duplicate Information”?

Stop immediately and do not resubmit. "Duplicate information" means the ID number or passport number you provided has already been verified on another Binance account – the system will reject it outright instead of going through a review process. You first need to confirm whether you registered the document yourself before, or if it is being used by someone else.

Step 1: Check the exact system message

Log into your Binance account and go to the [Identity Verification] page to read the specific prompt. Among the failure reasons returned by Binance's KYC system, one explicitly states: This ID number has been used. Log in to your original account to complete the transaction.

When you're done with this step: Confirm that keywords like "already used", "duplicate", or "already registered" appear in the error message.

Step 2: Recall whether you already have another Binance account

If you previously verified another Binance account with the same ID (even if you forgot about it or cannot access it), the system will block the KYC for your new account.

  1. Try to recover login access to the old account using your phone number/email.

  2. If the old account can be logged in, simply continue using it; no need to verify again.

  3. If the old account cannot be accessed or you want to close it, resolve the old account first before submitting new verification.

When you're done with this step: Confirm whether the current account is truly your first registration with that ID on Binance.

Step 3: Determine if your ID has been used fraudulently

If you are certain you never registered a Binance account with this ID, but the system says "already used", the document information may have been stolen and used by someone else.

  1. Take a screenshot of the system message (including the timestamp).

  2. Prepare a photo of the original ID document (front and back).

  3. Contact Binance customer support to file an appeal, stating that your ID has been used without authorization.

  4. Support will ask for your ID photos and a statement video; once your identity is confirmed, they will help unbind the document.

When you're done with this step: Customer support has accepted your appeal and provided a processing time or further instructions.

Step 4: Handling multiple accounts

If you genuinely have more than one account (for example, one personal and one corporate account), Binance's rule is: only one personal account is allowed, unless whitelisted (such as a verified corporate account).

  • Case A: You want to keep the new account and close the old one

    • Log into the old account and apply for account closure or KYC unbinding via customer support.

    • After the old account is unbound, resubmit verification on the new account.

  • Case B: You want to keep the old account and abandon the new one

    • Simply stop the verification process for the new account.

    • Continue using the old account as usual.

When you're done with this step: You have chosen one path and executed it, without repeatedly submitting between the two accounts.

Step 5: Rule out false positives caused by device or IP

In some cases, multiple KYC submissions from the same device or the same IP range may trigger the risk system's "duplicate account" flag, even if the ID numbers are different. If you are sure your ID is not occupied but the system still shows "duplicate":

  1. Switch to a different device (another phone or computer).

  2. Turn off your VPN and use a local network (non-proxy IP).

  3. Clear your browser cache, log in again, and resubmit.

When you're done with this step: After switching devices and resubmitting, check whether the prompt changes.

Common failure reasons

  • Using a family member's or friend's ID to verify your own account: Binance's system checks that the name on the ID matches the account registrant's name and will block it immediately.

  • Submitting the same materials repeatedly: If you resubmit identical information after a rejection without any changes, the system will treat it as a duplicate application and lock the verification function.

Risk reminders

  • One ID can only verify one Binance account: Binance detects duplicate accounts through IP, device ID, and KYC; violations may lead to account freezing.

  • Transferring accounts is a violation: Binance explicitly prohibits selling or transferring accounts to others. Once discovered, this will result in account freezing or even a permanent ban.

  • Customer support will never ask you for an "unbinding fee": Anyone claiming you must pay to unlock a document or unbind an account is a scammer.

Once you have confirmed the ownership of your ID, if it is a case of unauthorized use or a false positive, submit an appeal ticket via the Binance Help Center, attaching the system error screenshot and your ID photos. Appeals usually take 1–3 business days; pay attention to email replies. If it is your own old account, first recover or resolve the old account, then resubmit verification on the new account.
