Can a Passport Be Used for Binance Identity Verification?

Step 1: Confirm Your Eligibility
Depending on your location and account status, the acceptance of a passport may vary:
Mainland China users: Due to regional policy restrictions, you need to use an IP address outside mainland China, the US, and Singapore, and complete identity verification and facial recognition using a mainland China passport to unlock full trading features.
Non-mainland China users: A passport is also a valid proof of identity and carries the same weight as other regionally accepted ID documents.
Not applicable to Binance.US: Binance.US explicitly requires a US passport and does not accept foreign passports.
When you're done: Confirm you hold a passport that meets the above conditions and is within its validity period.
Step 2: Prepare Your Passport and Shooting Environment
Before submitting verification, prepare the following:
Original passport (personal information page free from damage or stains).
Working camera on your phone or computer.
A well-lit environment to ensure both your face and the document are clearly visible.
When you're done: Place the passport on a dark desktop; the camera preview shows no glare or obstructions.
Step 3: Go to the Identity Verification Page and Select Passport
Log in to the Binance App or website and navigate to [User Center] – [Identification].
In the document type options, select Passport – do not choose national ID or driver's license.
Fill in personal information: name, date of birth, nationality, etc. All information must exactly match the content on your passport.
When you're done: All information is filled in and you reach the passport upload page.
Step 4: Upload the Passport Personal Information Page
Take a photo of the personal information page (the page with your photo, name, passport number, and date of issue) and upload it to the system.
Photo requirements:
All four corners fully visible, no cropping.
No glare; text and photo must be clearly legible.
Accepted formats: JPG, PNG; file size no larger than 10 MB.
When you're done: After uploading, zoom in on the preview; all text should be clearly readable.
Step 5: Complete Facial Recognition (Liveness Check)
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the face verification:
Remove glasses, hats, and masks; ensure the face is fully visible.
Sufficient lighting; avoid backlighting.
If required to verify via video call with customer support, be prepared to read a designated statement in your native language or English and show your passport to the camera.
When you're done: The facial recognition enters the "Under Review" status.
Step 6: Wait for the Review Result
After submission, Binance usually completes the review within 24–48 hours. The result will be notified by email and in-site message.
When you're done: Receive confirmation that the review is approved and all account features are unlocked.
Common Reasons for Rejection
Unclear passport information page: Glare, blurriness, or incomplete corners are the most common reasons for rejection. Always check the preview before submitting.
Information mismatch: Any discrepancy between the entered name, date of birth, etc., and the passport details – even a single letter typo – will lead to rejection.
Expired passport: Binance requires the document to be within its validity period. If it has expired, renew it before resubmitting.
IP location does not match document region: For mainland China users, the verification may be blocked if the IP address is not from outside mainland China.

Risk Reminders
Nationality and name cannot be changed once submitted for verification. Double-check every character against your passport before submitting for the first time.
Accounts that have not completed identity verification will have restricted access to fiat trading, futures trading, withdrawals, and other features.
After passport verification is passed, if you need to raise your limits (Verified Plus), you may also be required to submit proof of address (such as a utility bill or bank statement).
Binance will never ask you to transfer funds or provide your password under the pretext of "verification failure." Be wary of such scams.
After submission, the page will display "Under Review." Keep an eye on your registered email and in-site notifications – the review is usually completed within 24 to 48 hours. If no notification is received after 3 working days, you can check the progress through Binance Help Center customer support channels.
