How to Recover Funds When You've Entered the Wrong Memo on Binance?

If you've entered the wrong Memo, recovery is possible, but the refund can only be sent back to the original sending address—you cannot request a different refund address. It's also important to distinguish between "wrong Memo" and "wrong address"—if you've sent funds to the wrong address, Binance is generally unable to assist. However, for wrong Memo issues, you may be able to submit a self-service recovery application under certain conditions.

Confirm Whether Your Case Meets the Self-Service Recovery Requirements

Purpose: Check whether your transaction meets the basic prerequisites for Memo recovery.

Steps:

  • Verify on a blockchain explorer that the transaction status is Confirmed/Successful. If it shows Unconfirmed or Failed, Binance cannot process it.

  • Confirm that the cryptocurrency you deposited is an asset listed on Binance. The self-service recovery tool only supports digital assets that are already listed on Binance.

  • Confirm that this is a deposit to Binance, not a withdrawal from Binance. If you entered the wrong address or Memo during a withdrawal, Binance cannot assist with recovery.

Completion criteria: Confirm all three conditions above are met.

Special note: If the wrong Memo you entered happens to belong to another Binance user, the funds may have already been credited to someone else's account. In such cases, Binance is unable to help you recover the funds.

Prepare Your Application Materials

Purpose: Gather all required information before submitting your application.

Steps:

  • TxID/TxHash: Find the blockchain transaction hash for this transaction.

  • Cryptocurrency: The full ticker code of the asset you deposited, e.g., "USDT" instead of just "U".

  • Deposit Amount: Enter the exact amount, supporting up to 8 decimal places. If the amount shown on the blockchain includes thousand separators, remove them before entering.

  • Source Address: The sender's address for this transaction. This is not the Binance deposit address assigned to you, nor any of your other withdrawal addresses.

Completion criteria: All four pieces of information above are ready, and the TxID can be copied and pasted directly.

Submit Your Self-Service Recovery Application

Purpose: Submit your application through Binance's official "Forgot or Filled Incorrect Tag/Memo Recovery" page.

Steps:

  1. After logging into your Binance account, navigate to the "Forgot or Filled Incorrect Tag/Memo Recovery Application" page.

  2. Fill in the form with the relevant details:

    • Select the cryptocurrency. If you cannot find it in the dropdown list, it means Memo recovery is not supported for that asset, and you'll need to use another channel.

    • Enter the deposit amount without any separators.

    • Paste the TxID.

    • Enter the source sender address.

  3. Click submit, review the transaction details, and click confirm again.

  4. Record the generated application reference number so you can track the progress later.

Completion criteria: The application is successfully submitted, the page shows a success message, and you can see the application in your application history.

Common reasons for failure:

  • Incorrect amount entered: Omitting decimal digits or including thousand separators will cause the system to not recognize the input.

  • Incorrect source address: Entering Binance's deposit address or another address instead of the actual sender's address.

  • Submitting the same transaction multiple times—the system will reject it directly. Check your application history for any existing application first.

  • After deducting the handling fee, the remaining balance is below the minimum withdrawal amount. In this case, Binance cannot process it.

Wait for Processing and Cooperate with Supplementary Material Requests

Purpose: Monitor your application status and provide additional verification materials if requested.

Steps:

  1. Check the application status in your application history. Processing typically takes 7 business days or more.

  2. If Binance requests supplementary materials—such as recording a video to verify the transaction's authenticity or providing a transaction record from the sending platform—follow the instructions provided.

  3. Once processing is complete, the funds will be refunded back to the original sending source address. If the source was another exchange, contact that platform to have the refund credited after receiving it.

Completion criteria: The application status changes to Completed, and the funds have been returned to the original address.

Risk reminders:

  • Refund address cannot be changed: For security reasons, recovered assets can only be returned to the original sender address. If there is an issue with your sending address, resolve the address security issue before applying.

  • Handling fees will be deducted from the recovered amount: Binance charges a certain percentage as a handling fee, typically equivalent to the network transfer fee for that asset. If the remaining balance after deducting the fee is too small, Binance will not process the recovery.

  • Funds sent to another user's account due to wrong Memo cannot be recovered: Binance cannot transfer funds out of another user's account.

After submitting your application, if you see your ticket number and a "processing" status in your application history, it means your case has entered the queue. The processing cycle typically takes 7 business days or more—just check your application history regularly. If the status changes to Completed, check the balance of the original sending address to confirm the funds have been returned.
