How to Prove Source of Funds for Crypto Salaries on Binance: A Document Guide

When depositing crypto salary, the core logic of proving the source of funds is a "three-piece set" — showing your income source (salary), the income path (on-chain / exchange to wallet), and legal tax records. To prove the origin of your crypto assets to Binance, you need to connect both "I received money" and "this money is legal".

1. First understand what Binance requires

When Binance asks you to complete "Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD)", you need to provide two types of information:

  • Source of Wealth (SOW): How your total assets have been accumulated. Crypto salary falls into one category — employment income.

  • Source of Funds (SOF): Where the specific funds you are depositing into your Binance account come from. It can also be salary income.

The key point is: If your salary is paid in cryptocurrency, your proof strategy must cover both "salary" and "crypto asset" attributes.

2. What documents are needed for crypto salary

Binance's list of acceptable documents for employment income (including self-employment) is as follows:

Core documents (provide at least one of the following):

  • Payslips: Official payslips for the last 3 months, showing your name, employer name, pay date, and salary amount.

  • Bank statements: Bank statements for the last 3 months showing monthly salary deposits (including employer name, amount, and date).

  • Employment verification letter: Issued within the last 3 months by the employer on company letterhead, showing your name, position, start date, salary and pay frequency, signed by an authorized representative.

  • Tax return: Tax document for the most recent tax year, showing your name, tax ID, and declared salary income.

Additional materials for crypto salary: If the salary is paid directly in cryptocurrency, in addition to the above documents, you need to supplement:

  • On-chain transaction screenshot: Shows the transaction hash (TxID), amount, date from the salary wallet address → your wallet address.

  • Exchange/platform statement: If your salary is paid via an exchange or salary platform (such as Bitwage, Deel, etc.), provide a statement screenshot from that platform showing your account info and incoming records.

  • Wallet screenshot: Showing wallet holdings, recent incoming records, and wallet address. Focus on capturing only the salary-related transactions, no need to expose all holdings.

3. Practical: Two-step linking "Income + On-chain"

Step 1: Prepare the "traditional proof" of salary

  • What to do: Gather documents that prove "where you work and how much you earn."

  • How to do it:

    • If your company's payroll system has a payslip export function, export the last 3 months' PDF payslips.

    • If salary is paid via bank, go to online banking and export the last 3 months' statements, marking each month's salary deposit entry.

    • If salary is paid directly in crypto, also prepare an employment verification letter or contract from the employer stating "salary is paid in cryptocurrency."

  • When is it complete: You have a document that proves "you are working and have income."

Step 2: Prepare the "crypto receipt" on-chain proof

  • What to do: Link the path "salary from employer wallet → your wallet."

  • How to do it:

    • On a block explorer (e.g., Etherscan/Solscan), find the salary transaction and take a full screenshot of the transaction details page, including: transaction hash (TxID), sender address, receiver address, amount, and timestamp.

    • If your wallet has multiple incoming records, only capture the ones corresponding to salary payments; do not submit the entire transaction history.

    • Screenshots must clearly show the wallet address, transaction amount, date, with all four corners visible and no cropping.

  • When is it complete: You have a screenshot that clearly shows "on a certain date, a certain address paid you XXX tokens."

Prerequisite: You have completed basic identity verification (KYC) on Binance. Unverified accounts cannot proceed with the EDD process.

4. "Golden rules" for document format

Binance has clear quality requirements for submitted documents; failure to comply will result in rejection:

  • Name consistency: The name on documents must match your Binance account name.

  • Clear and legible: High resolution (recommended 300 DPI), all four corners intact, no cropping, blurring, or filters.

  • Non-editable: Only PDF, JPG, PNG formats are accepted; Excel or Word are not accepted.

  • Recent: Payslips/bank statements must be within the last 3 months; tax returns for the most recent tax year.

  • Full-page screenshot: If providing a screenshot, it must show the full page including the URL bar, not a partial capture.

5. Common pitfalls

"Incomplete on-chain screenshot": Only captured the transfer amount, missing the wallet address or transaction hash, making it impossible to verify on-chain data; the document will be rejected.

"Payslip and on-chain deposit don't match": Payslip shows salary paid on the 1st of each month, but on-chain deposit is on the 5th — first check if the time difference is reasonable (bank processing delay). If the gap is too large, supplement an employer explanation letter.

"Only provided screenshots without salary documents": Binance's logic is first prove you are employed, then prove you received the money. Only wallet screenshots without payslips will be judged as "cannot prove these crypto assets are salary."

Risk reminder: If you cannot provide salary proof (e.g., freelancers with only crypto income), Binance accepts self-employment documents as alternatives: latest tax return, bank statements showing income, or client contracts/invoices. If you are completely unable to provide any income proof, your account may face ongoing restrictions or enter "withdrawal only" mode.

After completing the above, how to confirm successful submission?

Go to Binance [User Center] → [Identity Verification] page, find the "Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD)" entry, and upload documents one by one as instructed. After submission, the page will show "Under Review" status. If approved, account restrictions will be lifted; if rejected, the page will show the rejection reason, and you can supplement the required documents accordingly. Review usually takes 1-3 business days.
