How to Donate Crypto from Binance to a Charity? Verification and Receipts

Coins in your Binance account can be donated directly to charity projects, but this is not a universal "withdraw to charity address" process. The most direct path is through the official donation portal of Binance Charity, located inside the Binance App. If you want to donate to a third-party charity (such as Make-A-Wish or a local NPO), you usually need to either "withdraw to a crypto wallet designated by the organization" or go through a payment gateway like The Giving Block. The process and the receipt are two different things.

Donating Directly to Binance Charity in the Binance App

Binance Charity is a charity platform under Binance. It accepts BTC, BNB, USDT, and many other cryptocurrencies. It also supports direct donations through Binance Pay.

The process is: Log in to the Binance App → Go to [Pay] → Find the "Binance Charity" entry → Select the project you want to support → Enter the donation amount and coin type → Confirm the payment. Funds are deducted from your Spot or Funding Wallet. After the on-chain transaction is complete, your donation record will appear in the project's donor list.

How to verify: Binance Charity's main selling point is on-chain transparency. Every donation has a TxID (Transaction Hash). You can find it in the project's "Donation Records" tab and check on a block explorer to confirm that the money actually left your address. Binance Charity claims that 100% of donations go directly to the final beneficiaries, and that operating costs are covered separately by Binance.

Donating to Third-Party Charities: Withdrawal or Payment Gateway

If you want to donate to an organization outside of Binance Charity, the process depends on what the organization accepts.

Path One: Withdraw directly to the charity's wallet address. Many crypto-friendly charities publish BTC, ETH, and USDC receiving addresses on their official websites. You enter that address on the Binance withdrawal page, select the correct network (for example, if they accept ERC-20 USDC, you must select ERC-20), and complete the on-chain transfer. Selecting the wrong network can lead to permanent loss of funds, and it cannot be reversed. Always confirm the accepted network type with the charity before donating.

Path Two: Use a payment gateway like The Giving Block. Organizations such as Make-A-Wish International use The Giving Block to accept crypto donations, supporting BTC, ETH, and USDC. These gateways usually send a confirmation email after your donation, which includes a Tax Receipt issued by The Giving Block. If you need a receipt for tax purposes, this route is more standardized than sending coins directly.

Standard for confirming completion: No matter which path you take, the basis for judging whether a donation is truly complete is confirmation of receipt by the charity, not your side showing "Broadcast" or "Confirmed". On-chain confirmation only means the transaction was included in a block. It does not mean the charity has seen and acknowledged your donation.

Receipts and Taxes: It Depends on Your Jurisdiction

Whether a receipt can be issued, and whether it is useful, depends entirely on the tax laws of your country. Binance Charity's on-chain record (TxID) can serve as proof of donation, but it is not a tax receipt. A tax receipt usually needs to be issued by the charity or a payment gateway.

Using the United States as an example: Donating cryptocurrency to an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) charity is generally not considered a taxable event. You do not need to pay capital gains tax on the appreciation, and you may be able to claim a deduction based on the fair market value at the time of donation. However, there are limits: For assets held for more than one year, you can deduct the fair market value (subject to a 30% AGI limit); for assets held for less than one year, the deduction is limited to your cost basis. Donations over $5,000 usually require a qualified appraisal and IRS Form 8283.

The rules in China, Australia, the European Union, and other regions are completely different. This article is not a substitute for tax advice. If you plan to use a donation for a tax deduction, confirm two things before donating: whether the recipient has deductible charitable status in your jurisdiction, and what form of documentation you need.
