An OKX US account is essentially a compliance-focused entity that operates separately from the global exchange. Its features have been significantly reduced. It is operated by OKX INC., which holds a federal MSB registration in the United States and money transmitter licenses in more than 40 states. However, it does not offer perpetual contracts, options, leveraged trading, or high-yield Earn products. If all you need is compliant spot buying and selling with USD deposits and withdrawals, it can work. If you expect the full feature set of the global platform, the US account will disappoint you.

Who Cannot Register at All
Eligibility for the OKX US platform is more complicated than on most exchanges because it is regulated at both the federal and state levels.
Your place of residence is the first hard restriction. The OKX US platform is not available in states such as New York, Texas, and Nevada. You will be blocked during the KYC stage, even though the OKX US platform has been live for years. This is a different set of rules from the "restricted regions" list on the global OKX exchange. US users need to check the state-level coverage for OKX US separately.
The feature scope is the second restriction. The official risk disclosure for OKX US states clearly that OKX's centralized exchange services, except for the US services provided by OKX INC., are not available to US users. US users are explicitly prohibited from accessing products offered by any foreign entity. This means you cannot use a US identity to open an account on the global exchange, even if you can open the webpage.
Spot Trading: What You Can and Cannot Trade
The OKX US platform currently only offers spot trading and buy/sell/convert (OTC) services. There are no futures, no leverage, and no options.
The initial asset list includes about 75 assets, centered on BTC, ETH, SOL, and USDC. The plan is to expand to more than 150 assets by the third quarter of 2026. But even with 150 assets, that is far below the global platform's 350+ assets and 1000+ trading pairs. The highly volatile meme coins and newly listed DeFi tokens found on the global exchange will most likely not be listed on the US platform. The SEC's enforcement risk regarding "unregistered securities" is something OKX US must avoid.
One practical impact is this: You cannot short, hedge, or use tools like grid trading that depend on contracts on the US platform. If your strategy requires these tools, OKX US is not the right platform for you.
Deposits: The Full Path for USD
OKX US supports USD deposits and withdrawals, which makes it more practical than many offshore exchanges. There are two specific methods:
Debit card deposits are currently the most direct option. You must use a Visa or Mastercard debit card issued by a US bank, have completed KYC verification, and reside in a supported state. When adding a card, OKX will initiate a random pending charge between $0.01 and $1.99. You need to find this "DEBIT AUTHORIZATION" transaction in your banking app and enter the exact amount on the verification page to complete card verification. The entire verification process has a 60-minute time limit. If it expires, the card will be removed and you will need to add it again. Once verified, deposited funds are immediately available for trading.
Bank transfers support two methods: ACH transfers start at a minimum of $1, and deposits are usually credited instantly but may be temporarily frozen. Domestic wire transfers start at a minimum of $50, with processing times of up to 3 business days, but the daily limit can reach $500,000 for individuals. Wire transfers are suitable for large deposits, while ACH is better for smaller, faster transfers.
Pay attention to one key detail: the name on the deposit account must exactly match the name on your OKX account. If you transfer funds from a joint account or someone else's account, OKX will reject and return the deposit, and your bank may charge an additional return fee.
Withdrawals: Fees and Limits
USD withdrawal options correspond to the deposit methods, but wire withdrawals have a fixed fee of $30. ACH withdrawals do not have a clearly listed fee but may take up to 3 business days. Withdrawal limits share the same cumulative limit system as deposits.
When withdrawing, note that deposited funds may have a short holding period, especially for ACH deposits. If you try to withdraw immediately after depositing, your funds may be temporarily frozen. It is recommended to check your remaining limit and available balance status on the deposit page.
Fee Structure: Not the Cheapest Option
OKX US updated its fee framework in February 2026, introducing Fee Groups that charge different rates based on trading pairs. Group 1 includes major trading pairs such as BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, PEPE, SUI, ADA, and PENGU. Group 2 includes mid-tier active trading pairs, and other pairs fall into lower groups.
For base fees, OKX US spot maker/taker fees start at approximately 0.08%/0.10%. You can enter VIP tiers for discounts based on 30-day trading volume or OKB holdings. These fees are average among major exchanges. They are not particularly cheap, but they are reasonable considering compliance costs and the US regulatory framework.
Notable Historical Baggage and Current Status
In February 2025, OKX reached a $505 million settlement with the US Department of Justice over anti-money laundering (AML) violation allegations. As part of the settlement, OKX agreed to accept an external compliance monitor overseeing its US operations until February 2027. This means the OKX US platform is currently under strong regulatory scrutiny. Account reviews, large transaction reporting, and source of funds checks will be stricter than on ordinary exchanges.
Another development to note is that the OKX US platform currently has no active public new user bonus campaign. Third-party websites claiming a "$400 BTC reward" or "$200 reward" are referencing expired campaign windows from 2024-2025. As of April 2026, the OKX US campaign page does not list any currently active welcome bonus. If you see a referral code promising "register and get $200", you need to verify whether it is still valid. Do not make registration decisions based on outdated bonus information.
A Framework for Deciding
If you need a compliant, US-regulated platform that supports direct USD deposits and withdrawals and only does spot trading, OKX US is a viable option. Its asset selection is richer than a Tesla brokerage account, deposits and withdrawals are more convenient than most offshore exchanges, and fees are normal for a compliant platform.
If you need futures, leverage, high-yield Earn products, or the breadth of hundreds of assets found on the global exchange, OKX US is not suitable for you. You should consider other derivatives platforms with a complete compliance framework in the US, or accept the premise that "compliance means limited features."
A practical way to decide: Do not register yet. Open the OKX US official website and enter your state of residence in the first step of the registration process. If the system tells you that your state is not within the service area, the rest of this discussion does not apply to you. If your state is covered, compare its asset list and fees to see if they match your trading habits.
