OKX Trader Mode: Single-Coin Max Add Position Count – How to Avoid Repeatedly Chasing Highs

The biggest fear with copy trading isn't that a trader loses money – it's that they keep "buying the dip" on a single coin again and again, while your copy settings blindly follow them, adding more position after position. Your position gets heavier, your average cost keeps dropping (but not in a good way), and eventually you're stuck deep underwater. The "Single Coin Max Add Position Count" in OKX wallet copy trading is designed to prevent exactly this "repeatedly chasing highs" scenario.

Here are the 3 steps to set this parameter and avoid overconcentrating in a single coin.

Step 1: Locate the "Single Coin Max Add Position Count" Parameter

This parameter is tied to the "Do Not Follow Buy for Held Tokens" switch; only when you turn that off does this parameter appear.

What to do: When creating or editing a copy trade task, find the "Do Not Follow Buy for Held Tokens" toggle under [Buy Mode].

How to do it:

  • Turn off the "Do Not Follow Buy for Held Tokens" toggle. The system will then allow multiple add positions for a single token.

  • After you turn it off, the "Single Coin Max Add Position Count" input field will appear.

  • Set an upper limit you are comfortable with (for example, set it to 1: this means when the trader buys that coin a second time, you will no longer follow).

Done when: You have turned off the "Do Not Follow Buy for Held Tokens" option and can see the "Single Coin Max Add Position Count" input field.

Step 2: Set the Add Position Count Limit Based on the Trader's Strategy

Not every trader requires limiting the number of add positions. The key is to look at their trading style and your own risk appetite.

What to do: Set a reasonable add position count limit according to the trader's position-building habits.

How to do it:

  • Scenario A (trader uses a batch position building strategy): Some traders like to split one full position into multiple entries – for example, each entry uses only 10% of the intended total capital, spread over 10 buys. In this case, you need to set the add position limit high enough (like 15 or more). Otherwise, the copy trade may be terminated prematurely when the limit is hit, and you'll miss out on the later profits.

  • Scenario B (trader uses a high-frequency short-term strategy, moving in and out of the same coin frequently): If your trader is this style, it's recommended to set the add position limit fairly low (e.g., 2–3 times) to prevent repeatedly chasing the price higher on the same coin.

  • Scenario C (you only want to follow one trade and then stop): If you want to follow only one order each time the trader buys a coin, and never follow any subsequent adds, simply turn off the "Do Not Follow Buy for Held Tokens" toggle and set the "Single Coin Max Add Position Count" to 0 (or the minimum value suggested by the platform).

Done when: You have set a concrete "Single Coin Max Add Position Count" number based on your understanding of the trader's style.

Common mistake: Looking for "Single Coin Max Add Position Count" without first turning off "Do Not Follow Buy for Held Tokens", and then finding nothing. This parameter is a sub-setting that only appears after you allow add positions—you must disable the filter condition first.

Step 3: Use "Net Buy Budget" as a Second Layer of Protection

Even if you've set a single-coin add position limit, your funds can still be drained quickly if your trader frequently opens positions across multiple different coins.

What to do: In the [Strategy Risk Control Settings], set an upper limit for "Net Buy Budget".

How to do it:

  • "Net Buy Budget" is a total budget cap calculated based on cumulative net outlay (total buys – total sells – gas fees).

  • Once the cumulative net buy expenditure from all your copy trades reaches this cap, any subsequent copy-buy orders will be automatically filtered out and not executed.

  • This parameter acts as a "global brake", preventing your wallet from being over-occupied by too many copy trades.

Done when: You have configured both "Single Coin Max Add Position Count" and "Net Buy Budget" risk control parameters, creating a double layer of protection.

How to Verify Everything Is Correctly Set?

After applying the settings, check two things:

  1. Review the task details: Go to [My Copy Trades] → [Current Copy Trades], find the task, and confirm that "Single Coin Max Add Position Count" is showing the value you just set.

  2. Observe the subsequent copy behavior: When the trader adds to the same token again, check whether the system follows your settings – if the add count is exceeded, the copy trade should be automatically skipped instead of buying further. If the net buy budget is exceeded, all subsequent copy-buy orders should be filtered out.
