If you just signed up and want to close your account, find the option in the app or website under Security SettingsAccount ManagementClose Account. This is a self-service feature—no need to contact customer support. Simply clear all assets and complete the verification steps. By the way, if you only want to take a break, consider freezing your account instead. A frozen account can be reactivated later, offering more flexibility than permanent closure.

Prerequisites: Preparation Before Closure

Account closure is permanent and irreversible. Before submitting, double-check these items:

  • Clear all assets: Withdraw or close all balances in your trading account, earn products, futures margin, etc. No funds should remain.

  • Cancel all open orders: Cancel all pending spot and futures orders, and stop all trading bots or strategies.

  • Ensure no outstanding liabilities: No loans, collateral, or unresolved disputes.

  • Back up important records: Transaction history, chat messages, etc., will be deleted after closure. Screenshot whatever you need to keep.

If your account has completed identity verification (KYC), in some cases your identity information may be retained by the platform for a period and cannot be immediately used for a new registration.

Steps (App)

  1. Log in to the OKX app, tap the grid icon (top left) or go to the bottom My tab to enter the User Center.

  2. Tap Security Settings or Account and Security, scroll down and find Account Management.

  3. On the Account Management page, select Close Account.

  4. A pop-up will explain the consequences. Read carefully. If you're sure, tap Continue to Close.

  5. The system will ask you to confirm that all assets have been withdrawn. Check the balances of your Trading Account, Funding Account, Web3 Wallet, etc. Once you confirm there are no leftover assets, tap Continue.

  6. Select a reason for closure (choose one), then tap Continue.

  7. Enter the email verification code (or SMS code) and the Google Authenticator code to complete two-factor authentication.

  8. Tap Confirm Closure to finish.

Completion indicator: The page will show "Account closure submitted" or "Entering freezing period." After this, you can no longer log in.

Handling Two Different Account Statuses

Case A: KYC-verified account

For accounts that have completed identity verification, closure is irreversible, and your identity data cannot be used to register a new account for a specified period (usually 30 days). The account is permanently gone.

Case B: Non-KYC (unverified) account

For unverified accounts, there is a 7-day waiting period (some versions call it a cooling-off period). After this period, the phone number/email can be reused for a new registration. There is no way to lift the freeze early.

Common Reasons for Closure Failure

  • Assets still in the account: The system will reject the closure if any balance is detected. Check all sub-accounts: spot, futures, earn, rewards, etc. For small assets that cannot be withdrawn, contact customer support.

  • Google Authenticator not bound: Some versions require you to bind Google Authenticator before closing. Go to security settings to bind it first.

Risk Reminders

  • Irreversibility: Once your closure request is approved, the account and all data are permanently deleted. There is no undo or recovery option.

  • 30-day cooling-off: After closure, the same phone number, email, and identity information cannot be used for re-registration within a certain period (usually 30 days).

  • Platform-enforced closure: If your account is closed by the platform for violation of terms of service (not by your own request), that identity information will be permanently banned from re-registration, and the chance of a successful appeal is extremely low.

  • KYC identity information cannot be deleted: Even after account closure, identity information from completed KYC verification will be retained for a certain number of years as required by law and compliance, and will not be completely erased with the account cancellation.

Confirmation

After submitting the closure request, try logging in with the original account. If the system says "Account does not exist" or "Account has been closed," it means the closure process has started or completed. If you plan to re-register later, it is recommended to wait at least 30 days before trying with a new phone number.
