How to Verify Your Backup Email After Registering on OKX?

On OKX, there is no separate "backup email" verification process — each security verification item in an OKX account can only be bound to one email address. However, you can replace your current email with a new one by "changing email", which itself is a full verification of the new email, effectively completing the backup email setup.

Prerequisites: Confirm You Are Logged In and Can Complete Identity Verification

Before you begin, make sure of three things:

  1. You can log into your OKX account normally.

  2. You can receive verification codes at your current email (the old email is still accessible).

  3. You can complete two‑factor authentication (2FA), such as a Google Authenticator dynamic code.

If you cannot receive verification codes at your current email, you will need to use the "Unable to verify" process to reset your email, as detailed in the steps below.

Step 1: Enter Security Settings and Find the Email Change Option

What to do: Log into your account and find the option to change your email.

How to do it:

App:

  1. Open the OKX App and tap the profile icon in the upper left corner.

  2. Go to the [Security Settings] page.

  3. Under "Authentication methods", find [Email], tap it, then select [Change Email Address].

Web:

  1. Log into the OKX website, click the profile icon in the upper right corner, and go to [Security Center].

  2. Under "Security settings", find [Email verification] and click [Change Email].

When is it done: You have entered the email change page and can see the "New email address" input field.

Step 2: Complete Dual Verification for Old and New Emails (Core Step)

What to do: The system will send a 6‑digit verification code to both your new email and your current email. You need to retrieve and enter both.

How to do it:

  1. Enter the email address you want to bind in the "New email address" field.

  2. Click "Send verification code". The system will simultaneously send a 6‑digit code to your new email and current email.

  3. Log into your new email, retrieve the code, and enter it in the "New email verification" field.

  4. Log into your current email, retrieve the code, and enter it in the "Current email verification" field.

  5. Enter your two‑factor authentication (2FA) code (such as the dynamic code from Google Authenticator).

When is it done: All verification codes (new email, current email, and 2FA) have been entered correctly.

⚠️ Make sure the new email address is entered correctly, as you will receive all important OKX notifications via this email after the change.

Step 3 (Special Cases): When the Original Email Cannot Receive Verification Codes

What to do: If you cannot receive verification codes at your current email and cannot complete the "dual verification", you need to reset using other methods.

How to do it:

  1. On the verification page, select "Unable to verify" or "Use other verification method".

  2. The system will guide you to verify your identity using your bound phone number and two‑factor authentication (2FA).

  3. After verification, enter the new email address and complete the binding.

  4. If neither your phone number nor 2FA is available, you may need to complete identity verification through facial recognition, or contact OKX customer support.

When is it done: The new email is bound successfully and the system sends a confirmation email to the new email address.

Step 4: Confirm the Operation Was Successful

What to do: Confirm that the new email has been successfully bound.

How to do it:

  1. Log into your new email and check for a confirmation email from OKX (the subject is usually "[OKX] Email Changed").

  2. Log into your OKX account, go to [Security Settings], and check that the "Email" field shows your new email address.

  3. Try logging in with your new email once to confirm that you can receive verification codes normally.

When is it done: The email is shown as updated, and you can receive verification code emails from OKX as expected.

Common Reasons for Failure

  1. Not receiving verification code — Check your spam/junk folder; confirm the email address is entered correctly; check if your email storage is full.

  2. Incorrect 2FA code — Ensure your phone's time is synchronized with the network time. Google Authenticator requires accurate system time to generate the correct dynamic code.

  3. New email is already bound to another OKX account — OKX does not allow duplicate email bindings. Use an email that is not yet registered.

  4. Operation timed out — Verification codes have an expiration period. If it times out, simply request a new one.

Risk Warning

  • After changing your email, withdrawals and C2C selling will be disabled for 24 hours. If you have urgent fund needs, plan accordingly.

  • The system does not allow "unbinding" an email; you can only "change" it. An account must always have a usable email bound to it.

  • If you have created a Web3 wallet, make sure to back up your mnemonic phrase or private key before resetting security verification.

How to Confirm That Your Backup Email Verification Is Complete

Log into your OKX account, go to [Security Settings], and confirm that the "Email" field shows your newly bound email address. Then try logging in with that email once. If you can successfully receive a verification code and log in, the verification is complete.

If you cannot complete the above steps and encounter any security verification issues, you can contact customer support through the OKX Help Center or send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for assistance.
