In the OKX order placement area, next to the "Limit Order", there is usually an "Advanced" label or a gear icon. Click it to reveal the "Post Only" and "Time in Force" options. These settings are not displayed upfront; you need to actively click to see them.
Step 1: Enter the Limit Order Trading Interface
What to do: Make sure you are on the correct trading page, not just browsing market data.
How to do it: Open the OKX App or web platform, go to the spot trading page of the pair you want to trade. By default, the order type is usually "Limit Order". In the limit order input area, look for an "Advanced" label or a gear icon next to the order type.
Completion standard: You have found the additional settings area for the limit order, not just the price and quantity fields.
Step 2: Find the "Post Only" Option
This option ensures your order enters the order book as a maker order, not executed immediately, so you enjoy lower maker fees.
What to do: In the limit order settings, check or enable the "Post Only" function.
How to do it:
In the limit order placement area, find the "Post Only" checkbox or switch.
When enabled, if your order would immediately execute due to price, the system will reject and cancel the order automatically.
Completion standard: The option is turned on before you place the order.
Risk warning: Once "Post Only" is on, if your limit price is too close to the current market price and would immediately trade, the order will be canceled outright, giving you no chance to fill. This may cause you to miss trading opportunities in fast-moving markets.
Step 3: Set the "Time in Force"
This option determines how long the order stays active and how it is filled.
What to do: Find the "Time in Force" dropdown menu in the limit order settings.
How to do it: Based on your strategy, choose the appropriate time in force type:
GTC (Good Till Cancelled): The order remains on the order book until filled or manually canceled. This is the most common default option.
IOC (Immediate or Cancel): The order attempts to fill as much as possible immediately, and any unfilled portion is cancelled instantly.
FOK (Fill or Kill): The order must be filled completely in one go, or the entire order is cancelled immediately.
Completion standard: You have selected a time in force type from the dropdown before placing the order.
Common Reasons for Not Finding Them
Many people can't find these options because the default trading interface may hide them. If you don't see them in the order area, try clicking the "Settings" or "More" menu in the top right corner of the trading interface, and switch to a different trading mode (for example, from "Simple Mode" to "Professional Mode" or "Advanced Mode"). After switching, the advanced limit order options usually appear directly.
How to Verify It Worked
After setting "Post Only" and "Time in Force", click "Buy" or "Sell" to submit the order. If the order is placed successfully, you can see it in the "Open Orders" list below the trading page. If the order is canceled because it cannot meet the conditions (e.g., Post Only order would have been filled immediately), the page will show a pop-up or message "Order canceled", and you can see the canceled record in the "Order History".
Next Step: Save Your Preference
If you plan to use these advanced features regularly, go to the settings on the trading page and set the trading mode to "Advanced" or "Professional Mode" permanently. That way, the next time you visit the trading page, these options will be expanded by default, and you won't need to find the entrance again each time.
