When you start copy trading for the first time, you can set a total stop loss directly on the copy trade setup page. Just enter the maximum amount of USDT you are willing to lose overall. Once your cumulative loss reaches that limit, the system will automatically stop opening new copy trades. This feature is called "Strategy Stop Loss" and is available when you create a copy trade order.

Step 1: Go to the Copy Trade Setup Page

Find the trader you want to follow and enter the parameter configuration page. In the OKX app, go to TradeTrading SquareCopy Trading, select a trader, and tap "Copy." You will enter the settings page. You can also access an existing copy trade's settings by going to Copy TradingMy Copy TradesCopy Trade ManagementAdvanced Settings.

Step 2: Find "Strategy Stop Loss" and Enter the Amount

In the risk control section, input a USDT figure as the hard cap for your overall copy trade loss. Look for "Strategy Stop Loss" or "Strategy Risk Control" in the advanced settings area. Enter a specific amount (for example, 50 USDT). This amount means that when the cumulative unrealized loss of your copy trade reaches the threshold, any subsequent copy buy orders will be automatically filtered out, but the copy trade task itself will not be interrupted. Completion standard: you confirm that "Strategy Stop Loss" is filled in and its status is enabled.

Risk Notice

When the strategy stop loss is triggered, it only stops opening new copy positions. It does not automatically close your existing positions. If the trader is still holding positions, existing floating losses may grow further. To completely exit, you must close positions manually or stop the copy trade task manually.

Difference Between Single Trade Stop Loss and Strategy Stop Loss

Usually there are two stop loss options in the copy trade settings: one is "Strategy Stop Loss" (the total loss limit for your whole copy trade) and the other is "Single Trade Stop Loss" (the loss percentage per individual copied order). These two are independent. Beginners are advised to set both:

  • Strategy Stop Loss: set a total amount (e.g., stop copying when total capital loses 20%)

  • Single Trade Stop Loss: set a percentage (e.g., close a single position if it loses 10%)

Common Reasons for Failure

Many people mistake "Strategy Stop Loss" for an automatic position-closing feature, assuming that when triggered, all positions will be closed automatically—in reality, it only stops opening new positions and does not handle existing ones. Another issue is setting a stop loss but overlooking the leverage. OKX's historical data clearly shows that higher leverage significantly increases the probability of liquidation. It is recommended to keep copy trade leverage below 20x.

Next Steps

When creating a copy trade, fill in the Strategy Stop Loss in the advanced settings (based on the maximum loss you can tolerate) and also set a Single Trade Stop Loss percentage (10%–15% is suggested). After setup, you can pause or modify the parameters at any time on the copy trade task page.
