Bitcoin (BTC) deposits are more straightforward than USDT: There is only one supported network, the native Bitcoin network, and deposit addresses start with 1, 3 or bc1. As long as you select the correct network and enter the right address, your funds will arrive safely.

1. Retrieve your BTC deposit address from OKX

Complete account registration and identity verification first, then log in to your OKX account.

Mobile App: Tap [Assets] on the homepage → [Deposit] → Select [BTC] from the cryptocurrency list.

Web Platform: Click [Asset Management] on the top right of the homepage → [Deposit] → Select [BTC].

Select the deposit network. Bitcoin only has one mainnet, which is usually displayed as Bitcoin. Click to copy the generated address. The address may start with 1 (Legacy format), 3 (SegWit compatible format) or bc1 (native SegWit format). All three address formats are fully interoperable on the Bitcoin mainnet.

Completion Check: You have copied a valid BTC address that starts with 1, 3 or bc1.

2. Initiate the transfer from your withdrawal platform

Go to the platform or wallet that holds your BTC (another exchange, or on-chain self-custody wallet), find the Withdraw or Send function.

Paste the BTC address you copied from OKX. The system will usually automatically identify the network. You must confirm on the withdrawal page that the selected network is Bitcoin (BTC), which matches the network corresponding to the address generated by OKX.

Confirm the withdrawal amount. Carefully check that the pasted address is fully complete, especially the first and last few characters, to prevent clipboard hijacking attacks.

Risk Reminder: BTC transactions are irreversible once sent. If you send BTC to an address for another cryptocurrency (such as an ETH or TRX address), your assets will be permanently lost and cannot be recovered. We recommend testing with a small amount first for your first operation.

3. Wait for arrival and network confirmations

BTC transactions require miner confirmations. Funds will only be officially credited to your account after reaching the required number of confirmations set by OKX, usually 2 or more confirmations.

The arrival time depends on the miner fee you set and Bitcoin network congestion:

  • Under normal circumstances, it takes around 10 to 60 minutes.

  • If you set a very low miner fee, the waiting time may be much longer.

  • During peak network congestion periods or with low miner fees, it can take several hours.

You can check the arrival progress in the [Deposit History] section on OKX. The status showing "Deposit Successful" means the BTC is available for trading and withdrawal.

Common Failure Cause: Incorrect network selection — you selected a non-Bitcoin network to send BTC on the withdrawal platform (such as BTCB on BSC, or WBTC on Ethereum) and sent it to OKX's native BTC address, which will make your assets unrecoverable.

4. (Optional) Use Lightning Network — Faster and Lower Cost

Applicable Scenario: Small BTC transfers (usually under 0.01 BTC) where you want instant arrival and ultra-low fees.

OKX supports BTC deposits via the Lightning Network. Select the [Lightning] network on the deposit page, generate the Lightning invoice following the prompts, then paste the invoice to your wallet or other exchange to complete the transfer.

Note: The Lightning Network is designed for small payments, with a typical single-transaction limit of 0.05 BTC, and a total daily limit of 0.5 BTC.

FAQ

Q: I copied a BTC address from OKX, but my sending platform only shows "BTC-Segwit" and "BTC-Legacy" options, which one should I choose? Either option works. The native SegWit bc1 address generated by OKX has higher efficiency and usually lower transaction fees. All three address formats on the Bitcoin mainnet are interoperable, so just select whichever format your sending platform supports.

Q: Do I need to fill in a Tag or Memo for BTC deposits? No. Tag/Memo fields are only required for cryptocurrencies like XRP and EOS. You only need the address for BTC transfers on the native Bitcoin network.

Q: My withdrawal platform shows "Withdrawal Successful" but the funds have not arrived in my OKX account, what should I do? This means the miners have not completed the required confirmations, or the network is congested. First save your Transaction ID (TxID), and look up the confirmation count on a Bitcoin block explorer. OKX will automatically credit your account once the required number of confirmations is reached. If the required confirmation count is met but funds still do not arrive after a long time, contact OKX customer support and provide your Transaction ID for investigation.
