Using the Sepolia testnet can be summarized in three steps: configure network parameters → get test ETH → send a transfer and verify it on a block explorer. The process does not involve real assets, but the on-chain interaction logic is the same as on the mainnet.

Configure the Network: Chain ID and RPC Endpoint Must Match
Most wallets (MetaMask, imToken) support manually adding Sepolia. The core parameters you need to fill in are fixed:
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Network Name | Ethereum Sepolia |
| Chain ID | 11155111 (hex 0xaa36a7) |
| Currency Symbol | SepoliaETH |
| RPC URL | Any public endpoint, such as https://ethereum-sepolia-rpc.publicnode.com |
| Block Explorer | https://sepolia.etherscan.io |
A common mistake is entering the mainnet chain ID of 1, or pasting a mainnet RPC URL. The result is that your wallet shows a zero balance, or transactions cannot be broadcast. If your application compares chain IDs in code, note that the JSON-RPC returns the hex value 0xaa36a7, while configuration usually uses the decimal value 11155111. Do not mix them up.
Get Test ETH: Faucets Have Different Requirements, Choose One That Works
SepoliaETH has no market value and can only be obtained from faucets. Different faucets have different anti-abuse mechanisms, so you may get stuck on one; just switch to another.
The Alchemy faucet and Infura faucet require you to log in to the corresponding account. The Chainlink faucet allows you to claim simply by connecting your wallet, which is a lower barrier. The PublicNode faucet does not require login, but the amount is limited.
Pay attention to two things when claiming: first, claim the test ETH to the address you actually plan to use for operations, not to another address that you would then need to transfer from. Second, most faucets have a cooldown period for the same address or IP, so do not make repeated requests within a short time. imToken's documentation also reminds users that they may need to disable VPNs or complete a human verification.
Transfer: No Difference from Mainnet Operations
Once you have test ETH, the process of sending a transfer in your wallet is exactly the same as on the mainnet. Enter the recipient address and amount, confirm the gas fee, and sign to broadcast.
A practical suggestion: first test the entire process with a very small amount (e.g., 0.001 SepoliaETH) to confirm that the address and network are correct before operating with a larger amount. Although test ETH is not worth money, developing the habit of double-checking is good for mainnet operations.
Verify: The Block Explorer Is the Final Source of Truth
After sending a transfer, the wallet showing "Sent" only means the broadcast was successful, not that the transaction has been confirmed. Open https://sepolia.etherscan.io, paste your transaction hash or wallet address, and check the actual status.
When verifying, look at a few key fields:
Status: Only "Success" means the on-chain execution was successful.
Block: The block in which the transaction was included. Having a block number means it has been confirmed.
From / To: Check whether the sender and recipient addresses are correct.
Value: Whether the transfer amount matches your expectation.
If you cannot find the transaction on the explorer, it means the transaction has not yet been packed by a miner. It may still be waiting in the mempool, or the broadcast failed. Check whether your wallet network is indeed Sepolia, and whether the gas fee is set too low.
Testnet Scams
Test ETH has no real value. There is no such thing as "test ETH will be upgraded to mainnet ETH." Anyone claiming to sell SepoliaETH, or promising that test ETH can be exchanged for mainnet ETH in the future, is running a scam.
