Can Binance Withdrawal Protection Be Lifted Early?

By default, it cannot be lifted early. Binance's Withdrawal Protection is set to "strict lock" by default, and during the lock period, no one can terminate it early—including you. But if you checked "Allow early unlock" when activating it, you can manually remove the lock using your security key and authenticator app.

This feature was launched by Binance in May 2026, specifically designed to deal with offline coercion (such as wrench attacks)—giving you a buffer period that cannot be forcibly bypassed. The following explains how to check your settings, how to lift the lock early (if allowed), and what to do in a real emergency.

Prerequisites

  1. You have enabled Binance Withdrawal Protection.
  2. You remember the length of the lock period you set (1–7 days, default 48 hours).
  3. You are logged into your Binance account and can access the security settings page.

Step 1: Check Your Withdrawal Protection Settings

Open the Binance app or website, go to [Security] → [Withdrawal Protection]. Check the current status:

Case A: The page shows "Strict Lock" or "Early unlock not allowed"

This means you did not check "Allow early unlock" when you first enabled it. In this case, early unlocking is impossible, and you can only wait until the lock period ends. This is the default security design of the feature, which even you and customer support cannot override.

Case B: The page shows "Allow early unlock" is enabled

This means you chose the flexible option. You can lift the lock early using your security key and authenticator app.

Completion criteria: Know definitively whether your setting is Case A or Case B.

Step 2: If Early Unlock Is Allowed, Execute the Unlock

If you are in Case B:

  1. On the Withdrawal Protection page, find the [Unlock in advance] button.
  2. After clicking, the system will ask for verification:
    • Security key (hardware security key, e.g., YubiKey)
    • Authenticator app (6‑digit dynamic code from Google Authenticator or a similar app)
  3. After completing verification, the lock is lifted immediately. Withdrawals resume.

If you additionally set up "Send confirmation to a separate phone number or email" when enabling the feature, you will need to complete that verification step during early unlock as well.

Completion criteria: The page shows that the lock has been lifted and withdrawal functionality has returned to normal.

Step 3: If You Are in Strict Mode (Early Unlock Not Allowed)

If Case A, there is no way to lift the lock early. Here is what you can do:

  • Wait for the lock period to end: The lock timer starts when you enable the feature, and the lock is automatically removed after 1–7 days. The default is 48 hours.
  • Contacting customer support will not help: Binance has clearly stated that customer support cannot override this lock.

If you are currently under coercion, the "impossible to unlock" design is itself a protection—attackers cannot force you to lift the lock early, and the 48‑hour window gives you time to call the police or get to safety.

Completion criteria: Wait for the lock period to end; withdrawals will automatically resume.

Common Reasons for Failure

Early unlock verification fails

Early unlocking requires both a security key and an authenticator app. If you do not have your security key with you, or if your authenticator app was lost due to a phone change, you cannot lift the lock early. In that case, you can only wait for the lock period to end naturally. If you have an urgent situation and need to unfreeze your withdrawals but cannot complete verification, you may consider contacting support via face recognition, explaining your situation, and submitting a ticket for an independent review by the risk control team—however, this is an exceptional process and is not guaranteed.

Risk Reminder

  • Think carefully about the lock period before enabling: The default is 48 hours, but if you set it to 7 days, you will not be able to withdraw funds even if you need them during that period.
  • The "early unlock" option must be set in advance: If you did not check it when enabling, you cannot add it later. You would need to turn off the entire Withdrawal Protection, then re‑enable it while checking "Allow early unlock." Turning it off and back on will restart the lock period, so pay attention to timing.
  • The feature does not affect trading: During the lock period, trading, opening positions, closing positions, etc., are not affected; only on‑chain withdrawals are restricted.

How to Confirm the Operation Is Complete

After lifting the lock, go back to the Withdrawal Protection page and check that the status shows "Closed" or "Inactive." Then try to initiate a small withdrawal (you can cancel it immediately). If you can enter the normal withdrawal verification process, the lock has been completely removed.

If you are unsure whether it succeeded, check the "Lock end time" on the page. If the time shown is in the past, the protection period has expired and withdrawals have automatically resumed.
