How to Handle an Expired Binance Lightning Deposit Invoice
Binance Lightning Network deposit invoices (Invoices) become void once expired and cannot be renewed or extended. You need to return to the Binance deposit page, generate a new invoice, and then re-initiate the transfer from your original withdrawal platform.
Invoice expiration is a design feature of the Lightning Network—each invoice comes with a fixed validity period to prevent old invoices from being reused or maliciously consuming node resources. Binance Lightning deposit invoices are valid for 30 minutes.
Prerequisites
The Binance Lightning Network invoice you previously generated has expired (the page shows "expired" or "Invoice no longer valid").
You can log into your Binance account normally.
You have not yet initiated the transfer on the withdrawal platform—if you have already initiated it but the invoice expired, see the corresponding scenario below.
Step 1: Confirm Whether the Invoice Has Really Expired
Scenario A: You have not yet initiated the transfer on the withdrawal platform
Open Binance [Wallet] → [Deposit] → select BTC → choose [Lightning] as the network, and check the invoice you previously generated. If the page shows "Expired" or "Invoice invalid," proceed directly to the next step.
Scenario B: You have already submitted the transfer on the withdrawal platform, but the invoice now shows as expired
If the invoice expired during the transfer process, the withdrawal platform may have already deducted the funds but the transaction is stuck:
First, check the withdrawal status on the withdrawal platform. If it shows "Processing" or "Pending confirmation," contact the withdrawal platform's customer support, explain that the invoice has expired, and ask if the withdrawal can be canceled.
If the withdrawal platform shows "Completed" but Binance has not received the funds, contact Binance customer support, provide the invoice and transaction details for manual verification.
Completion criteria: Confirm that the current invoice has expired and no transfer has actually been initiated (or the withdrawal platform has been contacted to cancel it).
Step 2: Generate a New Invoice on Binance
Open the Binance App or website → [Wallet] → [Deposit].
Select BTC and choose [Lightning] as the network.
Enter the amount you wish to deposit (Binance has minimum and maximum limits for Lightning deposits; refer to the on-screen prompts, typically 0.00002–0.05 BTC).
Click [Create Invoice].
After the system generates a new invoice, click [Copy Invoice Number] (the long string of characters starting with "lnbc").
Completion criteria: The new invoice has been successfully copied, and the page displays the validity period (30 minutes).
Step 3: Use the New Invoice to Re-initiate the Transfer on the Withdrawal Platform
Open your withdrawal wallet or exchange and go to the Lightning Network withdrawal page:
Paste the new invoice copied in Step 2 into the "Invoice address" input field.
The system will automatically recognize the amount; confirm it is correct and submit.
Wait for the Lightning Network to process—usually it takes from a few seconds to a few minutes.
After pasting the invoice, make sure to verify that the automatically recognized amount matches what you entered. If it does not match, the payment will fail.
Completion criteria: Binance deposit records show that BTC has arrived, and your balance has been updated.
Common Reasons for Failure
The withdrawal platform is still using the old invoice
Some withdrawal platforms may "lock" the invoice once you submit a withdrawal. Even if the invoice expires, the system may still be attempting to make the payment. In this case, you need to contact the withdrawal platform to cancel that withdrawal and re-initiate it with the new invoice—that platform's customer support cannot directly "refresh" the invoice; it can only be canceled and recreated.
Risk Reminders
Never reuse an old invoice: An expired invoice will be rejected by Lightning Network nodes even if submitted again (returning an "expired" error). Repeated attempts only waste time.
Use the invoice as soon as possible within its validity period: It is best to complete the transfer within 30 minutes after generation, leaving a buffer—if more than 28 minutes have passed without submission, it is recommended to generate a new one before proceeding.
The amount must match exactly: Lightning invoices are "fixed-amount" payment requests. The amount sent must be exactly the same as the amount on the invoice—any deviation, even by a fraction, will cause the payment to fail.
Generating an invoice does not incur charges: Generating an invoice on Binance itself is free. Only the actual transfer incurs Lightning Network routing fees.
How to Confirm the Operation Is Complete
Return to the Binance [Wallet] page and check whether your BTC balance has increased. Also, go to [Deposit History] and verify that the Lightning Network deposit status shows "Completed" or "Arrived"—that indicates a successful operation.
If the deposit takes more than 10 minutes to arrive, you can copy the payment hash from the new invoice and submit a query through Binance Customer Support.
