What to Prepare If You Forgot to Fill in MEMO When Depositing on Binance
When depositing coins that require a MEMO on Binance, forgetting to fill it in doesn't mean your funds are lost, but you need to go through the official "self-service recovery" process. The core preparation is: obtain the transaction hash (TxID) for this transfer and ensure you can log into your Binance account.

MEMO (also called Tag or Note) is an additional identifier that must be filled in when depositing certain coins (such as XRP, XLM, or BNB on the BEP-2 network). Because all users share the same deposit address for these coins, Binance relies on the MEMO to identify who the funds belong to.
Step 1: Confirm This Transaction Meets Self-Service Recovery Conditions
What to do: Before submitting a request, verify that this deposit is eligible for recovery.
How to do it: Check the following points one by one:
The transaction is confirmed on-chain (Confirmed/Success): Open a blockchain explorer (e.g., XRP Ledger Explorer for XRP, Stellar Expert for XLM), enter your TxID, and confirm the transaction status is "success" or "completed". If it is still "unconfirmed" or "failed", the recovery process cannot proceed.
The funds were deposited to your own Binance personal account: Self-service recovery does not apply to deposits sent to someone else's account.
The coin you deposited is an asset listed on Binance: If the coin hasn't been listed yet, you need to use other appeal channels.
It is not a withdrawal with incorrect information: If you filled in the wrong address or MEMO when withdrawing from Binance, the platform cannot help retrieve it; you need to contact the receiving platform.
When is this step complete: You have confirmed the transaction status is "success" on-chain and it meets all the conditions above.
Step 2: Prepare the Key Materials Required for the Application
What to do: Gather the information you need to fill in the application form ahead of time, so you don't get interrupted while searching for it.
How to do it: Note down or copy the following information into your memo:
| Required Information | Specific Requirements |
|---|---|
| Transaction Hash (TxID) | The unique on-chain transaction ID. This is the most critical piece of information – recovery depends on it. |
| Deposit Coin | Which coin you deposited (e.g., XRP, XLM). |
| Deposit Amount | Accurate to 8 decimal places, remove thousands separators (e.g., 1,234.5 should be filled as 1234.5). |
| Source Address | The "sender" address of this transaction, not your Binance deposit address. |
| Binance Account | You only need to be able to log in normally. |
When is this step complete: The above information is ready, especially the TxID has been copied.
Step 3: Submit the "Forgot/Wrong Tag/Memo Recovery Application"
What to do: Go to the Binance official website and submit the formal recovery application form.
How to do it:
Log into your Binance account.
Visit the "Forgot or Wrong Tag/Memo Recovery Application" page (you can also search for "forgot Tag/Memo recovery" in the Help Center to find the entry).
Fill in the form as prompted on the page:
Coin: Select the coin you deposited from the dropdown menu.
Deposit Amount: Fill it in precisely.
TxID/TxHash: Paste the transaction hash you have prepared.
Confirm the information is correct and submit.
When is this step complete: The page shows a successful submission, and you can see the application status in your "Application Records".
Step 4: Wait for Review and Pay the Fee
What to do: After submission, wait for processing and understand the possible fees.
How to do it:
Waiting time: Binance typically needs 7 working days to process this type of recovery application.
Handling fee: If recovery is successful, a network withdrawal fee will be charged. The specific amount will be shown in your application record.
Where the funds go: After the asset is successfully recovered, it will be returned via the same route to the source address from which you initiated the deposit, not directly credited to your Binance account balance.
When is this step complete: You understand the waiting period and fee rules, and you will check for status updates in your application record after a few days.
Common Reasons for Failure
The incorrectly filled Tag happens to belong to another valid user: In this case, the platform cannot assist; the asset may have already entered another person's account.
Balance after deducting the fee is below the minimum withdrawal amount: If the amount left after deducting the recovery fee is even less than the minimum withdrawal threshold, the platform may directly abandon the recovery.
Submitting the application repeatedly: The same transaction cannot be submitted again. Just check the progress in your application records.
Risk Reminders
Asset recovery takes time; please be patient while waiting.
If recovery fails, the funds are most likely unrecoverable. When depositing coins like XRP, XLM, etc., always treat the MEMO as part of the address and fill it in.
