If interest keeps accruing after liquidation, it means there is an unsettled residual liability in the system. The interest hasn't stopped because you haven't fully repaid what you borrowed.

Why There's Still Debt After Liquidation

In Binance margin trading, liquidation does not mean repayment. Liquidation simply sells your position, and the proceeds are used first to repay the borrowed assets and interest. But if the sale proceeds don't cover the full loan and interest, or if only part of the position was liquidated, a residual liability remains. As long as that liability exists, interest continues to accrue hourly.

A more direct rule comes from official Binance guidance: in isolated margin mode, liquidation automatically repays the borrowed asset and interest; in cross margin mode, any residual liability after liquidation must be settled by buying the owed coin on the spot market.

Step 1: Find Where the Debt Is

First, confirm which account mode you are using, then check the corresponding location for the debt:

Case A – Isolated margin mode: open [Assets] → [Margin Account] and look at the coin you traded. If the "Liabilities" field shows 0, automatic repayment has taken effect and interest has stopped calculating.

Case B – Cross margin mode: go to [Assets] → [Overview], switch to the "Borrow" or "Liability" tab, and check the debt amount. In cross margin mode, the debt may not be cleared automatically after liquidation; you need to manually buy the owed coin on the spot market and repay it.

Case C – Unified account mode: if you have cross margin or futures contract liabilities, use the "Unified Account One-Click Close" function to quickly clear all positions and debts.

Completion standard: You have confirmed your current account mode and located the specific coin and amount of the debt.

Step 2: Manually Repay the Residual Debt

Different modes require different repayment steps:

Case A – Residual debt in isolated margin mode: find the "Repay" option in the margin account interface, select the borrowed coin, and the system will use your available balance to pay off interest first, then principal. If the available balance is insufficient, transfer funds in first.

Case B – Residual debt in cross margin mode: go to the [Spot] trading page, buy the amount of the owed coin, then find the "Repay" or "Borrow Repay" button under the [Assets] section to complete the repayment.

Case C – Unified account one-click close: on the futures trading page, find the "Unified Account One-Click Close" option. The system will cancel all open orders, clear all liabilities, and convert the remaining assets into the coin you specify.

Completion standard: After the repayment, the "Liabilities" field for that coin shows 0, and interest stops accumulating.

Risk Reminder

Interest is calculated dynamically; Binance margin rates update every 8 hours. If you don't settle the residual debt promptly after liquidation, even a tiny outstanding amount will still be charged interest on an hourly basis. Accumulated interest is factored into margin level calculations, and leaving it unpaid for a long period will worsen your margin ratio. In addition, forced liquidation incurs an extra 2% liquidation fee, further widening your debt gap.

How to Verify Everything Is Cleared

Open [Assets] → [Account Balance] and check the "Liabilities" field for every coin one by one. When all read 0, the debt is fully cleared. Verification channels: Binance App [Assets] → [Margin Account] and [Assets Overview] page.
