On Binance's spot trading interface, when placing a limit order, the advanced options "Post Only" and "Time in Force" are not immediately visible. You need to switch the trading interface to "Advanced" mode first. The setting is in the top right corner of the spot trading page. After switching, a "Post Only" checkbox and a "Time in Force" dropdown menu will appear when placing a limit order.

Step 1: Switch to Advanced Order Mode

The default "Basic" mode does not show these options.

  • What to do: Switch the order mode from "Basic" to "Advanced".

  • How to do it:

    1. Log in to the Binance website and go to the "Spot Trading" page.

    2. Click the gear icon (Settings) in the top right corner of the price display area.

    3. In the pop-up settings window, click the "Layout" tab.

    4. Find "Order Mode" and select "Advanced".

  • Completion standard: More options appear in the order area, and you can see the "Post Only" checkbox and the "Time in Force" dropdown menu below the limit order form.

Step 2: Set "Post Only" (Maker Only)

This feature ensures your order only joins the order book as a maker order, adding market liquidity and earning maker fees, without immediately matching existing orders.

  • What to do: When placing a limit order, check the "Post Only" option.

  • How to do it: In the limit order form, find the "Post Only" or "Post only" checkbox and tick it.

  • Completion standard: After submission, the order will only appear on the order book waiting for a match, and will not immediately match with existing orders. Note: If your limit price would result in immediate execution (e.g. your buy price is higher than the current lowest ask price), the system will reject the order and cancel it automatically.

Risk Reminder: Using "Post Only" means your order must wait for someone to take your order to be filled. During fast market movements, it may not get filled due to price deviation, causing you to miss opportunities. Also, if order book depth is low, your order might stay open for a long time; you need to monitor it and cancel manually if needed.

Step 3: Set "Time in Force"

This option determines how long your limit order remains in the market and its execution rules.

  • What to do: When placing an order, select a strategy from the "Time in Force" dropdown menu.

  • How to do it: In the limit order form, find the "Time in Force" dropdown menu and choose according to your needs:

    • GTC (Good Till Cancelled): The order will remain on the order book until it is fully filled or you cancel it manually. This is the most common and worry-free choice.

    • IOC (Immediate Or Cancel): The order will try to fill as much as possible immediately. Any unfilled portion will be cancelled right away. Choose this if you want to quickly buy part of your order.

    • FOK (Fill Or Kill): The order must be filled completely in one go, otherwise the entire order will be cancelled immediately. Suitable if you require the full amount and don't accept partial fills.

  • Completion standard: The order will be executed or cancelled according to the chosen strategy.

How to verify: After placing the order, check the "Open Orders" section on the trading page. A GTC order will remain there waiting to be filled. For IOC or FOK orders, you will see their final status — "Filled" or "Cancelled" — in the "Order History".

Next step: If you set "Post Only" but your order hasn't been filled for a while, check the order book depth around the same price. If your market outlook changes, cancel the order promptly in "Open Orders" to avoid unwanted positions due to price movement.
