What to Check Before Scanning a Binance Deposit QR Code?

Before scanning the QR code, verify three pieces of information: that the coin and network indicated by the QR code match what you intend to deposit, whether a Memo or Tag must be filled in for this deposit, and never scan a QR code sent to you by someone else — this is the most common phishing trap.

1. Verify the Coin and Network of the QR Code

What to do: Confirm that the address decoded from the QR code matches the same coin and network combination you plan to deposit.

How to do it:

  1. Log in to the Binance app, go to [Deposit] → [Deposit Crypto], and select the coin you want to deposit.

  2. After the system generates the QR code and deposit address, check the network name displayed above (e.g., BNB Smart Chain (BEP20), Ethereum (ERC20), Solana, etc.) to ensure it is the same network where your coin resides in your external wallet.

  3. Before scanning, after scanning with your wallet app, first look at the decoded address; confirm the address prefix matches the network standard — for example, BEP20/ERC20 addresses start with "0x", TRC20 addresses start with "T".

  4. Never choose a network solely based on the lowest fee; you must select a network compatible with your external wallet or withdrawal platform.

When is this step complete: You clearly know which coin and network this QR code represents, and they exactly match the coin you are sending from your wallet.

Choosing the wrong network is the most common reason for lost deposits. Binance repeatedly warns: if you select an incompatible or mismatched deposit network, the funds will be lost and cannot be recovered.

2. Check if a Memo/Tag is Required

What to do: Check whether this coin's deposit requires a Memo or Tag to be filled in at the same time; the QR code only contains the address, not the Memo.

How to do it:

  1. On the Binance deposit page, check whether a "Memo" or "Tag" field appears below the address.

  2. If the page shows both the address and Memo, in addition to copying the address, you must also separately copy the Memo and enter it in the Memo/Tag field when withdrawing from your external wallet.

  3. Scanning the QR code only captures the address information; the Memo must be entered manually.

When is this step complete: You have confirmed whether the current coin needs a Memo; if so, the Memo has been copied and is ready to be filled in during withdrawal.

Common reasons for failure:

  • Missing Memo: Some coins (such as XRP, EOS, BEP2 tokens) require both the address and a Memo. If the Memo is omitted, the funds will enter Binance's main wallet but cannot be matched to your account.

3. Eliminate QR Code Phishing Risks

What to do: Confirm that the QR code you scan is a Binance app-generated deposit QR code, not one sent by a third party.

How to do it:

  1. Deposit QR codes should only be obtained from the Binance app or official website deposit page; do not scan any QR codes sent by anyone via Telegram, WhatsApp, WeChat, or other messaging apps.

  2. Binance has repeatedly warned: scammers disguise Binance login QR codes as "order QR codes" or "reward QR codes" and send them to users; after scanning, the account will be taken over and assets stolen.

  3. If the QR code has a Binance logo in the middle, it is very likely a login QR code rather than a deposit QR code — do not scan.

When is this step complete: You have confirmed the QR code originates from the Binance official app deposit page, not from someone else.

Risk reminder:

  • QR Code Login Scam: Criminals send "Binance rewards" or "order confirmation" QR codes via WhatsApp or Telegram to trick users. Once you scan and authorize, scammers can log into your Binance account and transfer assets away.

  • Facial Verification Fraud: Fraudsters posing as "Binance customer support" ask you to send a face video for "verification," actually using stolen data to bypass the platform's verification system.

How to Confirm You Have Checked Correctly?

After scanning the QR code, the wallet app shows the receiving address matches the one on the Binance deposit page, the network name matches, and the Memo has been filled in (if required) — only when all three conditions are met can you initiate the transfer. If the QR code was sent by someone else, delete it and report it, do not scan. After the transfer, save the TxID; you can track the confirmation status on a block explorer before it arrives.
