When Do You Need a Memo for Binance TON Deposits?
Binance completed a TON deposit address upgrade on September 23, 2025. Now most users are given a unique address that does not require a Memo. If you copied a new address from the deposit page (usually starting with "UQ" or "EQ"), no Memo is needed. There is only one case where you still need a Memo: you are using the old shared deposit address (a legacy address that comes with a Memo field).
1. First, check which type of TON deposit address you are using
Binance upgraded its TON deposit system in September 2025. The rules for new and old addresses are completely different.
New address (obtained on or after September 23, 2025): Each user's TON deposit address is unique and does not need a Memo. If you copied a TON address from the Binance [Deposit] page after September 23, 2025 and it is different from any TON address you saved earlier, it should be the new type and no Memo is required.
Old address (saved before September 23, 2025): The old system used a shared address plus a Memo to distinguish users. A Memo is still required for these addresses. Binance will continue to support the old address with Memo method for a transitional period.
Find out whether your address is the new one obtained after the upgrade (very likely no Memo needed) or an old address you saved previously (Memo needed).
Most users simply need to log in to Binance, go to the [Deposit] page, and copy the TON address again. If the address you copy starts with "UQ" or "EQ" (not the raw format starting with "0:"), it is a new address and no Memo is required.
2. Look at the Binance deposit page prompt: Fill in Memo if shown, otherwise don't
The most straightforward method is to follow what the Binance deposit page tells you.
Log in to Binance and go to [Wallet] → [Deposit] → [Deposit Crypto].
Search for "TON" or the TON-chain token you wish to deposit (e.g. HMSTR).
Select the [TON] network.
Check what the page displays:
Only an address is shown, without a Memo/Tag input box: No Memo is needed. Just copy the address.
Both "Address" and "Memo" fields are shown: You are likely using the old address system or a specific network, and both must be filled in.
Based on what you see on the page, you'll know clearly whether a Memo is required for this deposit.
Prerequisite: You must have completed Binance KYC identity verification.
Special note: If you are depositing a Jetton on the TON chain (such as HMSTR, DOGS, etc.) rather than native TON, the situation may differ slightly. According to the official TON documentation, the deposit handling for Toncoin and Jettons can be different. It is recommended to check the specific requirements for that token on the Binance deposit page.
3. What to do if the Memo is wrong or missing
If your TON deposit has not arrived because of a Memo issue, take action as soon as possible.
Check on-chain first: Use a TON block explorer (e.g. tonscan.org) to look up the transaction with your TxID and confirm the on-chain status is "Success".
Use self-service recovery: If you confirm the Memo was wrong or missing, log in to Binance, go to [Wallet] → [Deposit History], find this transaction, and see if there is a "Recover" button. If yes, click it to follow the smart recovery process. If not, submit an application through the "Deposit not credited" self-service recovery page.
Once a recovery application is successfully submitted, track the status under [Application Records].
Common reasons for failure:
Used the old address but forgot to fill in the Memo: This is the most common issue during the transition period. If you are using an old address (the shared address tied to your account), the Memo is mandatory.
Filled the Memo into the address field in your wallet: The Memo field in TON wallets is usually called "Memo" or "Comment". Putting the Memo in the wrong place may prevent the Binance system from identifying it.
Risk reminders:
Binance has completed the TON address switch; it is strongly recommended that you obtain a new address: Although the old address + Memo method is still supported in the short term, using a Memo-free new address is safer and easier in the long run.
TON wallet maintenance may pause deposits: If you encounter a deposit issue, first check whether it coincides with wallet maintenance.
Log in to Binance, go to the [Deposit] page and fetch a TON address again. If the page only shows an address without a Memo field, you are on the new system and no Memo is needed – simply send to that address. If you are depositing a Jetton token on the TON chain (not native TON), select the corresponding token on the deposit page and follow the on-screen instructions – whether a Memo is required depends on what the page displays. For first-time operations, it is advisable to do a small test transaction and send the rest only after the test arrives.
