What Must You Check Before Your First Deposit on Binance?

Before your first deposit, you must check three things: your account has completed KYC verification, the deposit address and network match exactly, and you have prepared enough for gas fees. Mismatched address and network is the most common cause of failed deposits for beginners; getting this step wrong could result in irreversible loss of funds. Below we check step by step in this order: "Account Preparation → Obtain Address → Verify Information → Initiate Transaction → Confirm Arrival".

Prerequisite: Complete KYC Identity Verification

Before starting any deposit operation, ensure your Binance account has completed basic identity verification (KYC). For unverified accounts, fiat deposit channels are disabled. While you can obtain a crypto deposit address, account functions will be restricted after funds arrive. Verification path: Log in to your Binance account, go to [User Center] - [Identity Verification], upload your ID document and complete facial recognition. Review usually finishes within a few hours.

When is it considered complete?: The Identity Verification page shows "Verified" status.

Step 1: Decide Deposit Method – Fiat or Cryptocurrency

Binance supports two on-ramp methods. Choose based on the type of funds you have.

Fiat Deposit: Supports bank cards, Alipay, WeChat and other methods to buy crypto with CNY (Chinese Yuan), ideal for beginners without crypto assets. Path: Log in to Binance App, tap [Funds] - [Fiat Deposit], select a payment method and complete payment.

Crypto Deposit: Transfer crypto assets such as BTC or USDT from an external wallet or other exchange, suitable for users who already hold crypto. Path: Log in to Binance App, tap [Funds] - [Deposit] - [Deposit Crypto].

When is it considered complete?: You have confirmed whether you will take the "fiat to crypto" route or the "on-chain deposit" route.

Step 2 (For On-Chain Deposits Only): Verify Deposit Address and Network

This is the most critical step for on-chain deposits and the place where beginners make the most mistakes.

Obtain Address: Go to the [Deposit Crypto] page, select the coin you want to deposit (e.g., USDT), then select the network. Different networks generate different deposit addresses; the address and network are tied together.

Checklist:

  • The network selected on the Binance deposit page and the network you choose on the withdrawal platform must be exactly the same — e.g., both ERC20 or both TRC20. If networks do not match, funds will be sent to the wrong chain and cannot be recovered.

  • After copying the address, verify the first few and last few characters to ensure they match the Binance page display. It is recommended to use the "Copy" function, do not type manually.

  • Some tokens (such as XRP, XLM, EOS) require a Memo/Tag to be filled in; missing this will also prevent the deposit from arriving.

When is it considered complete?: The network selection on the Binance deposit page and on the withdrawal platform are exactly the same, and the address has been copied and verified as correct.

Step 3: Confirm Gas Fee and Minimum Deposit Amount

On-chain deposits require paying a network miner fee (gas fee), which is deducted by the withdrawal platform or wallet. Binance itself does not charge any deposit fee.

Check Gas Fee: On the withdrawal page of the sending platform, the estimated gas fee is displayed. ERC20 (Ethereum network) gas fees are relatively high (could be several dollars to tens of dollars), while TRC20 (TRON) and BEP20 (BSC) fees are much lower.

Check Minimum Amount: Each coin has a minimum deposit requirement. After selecting the coin and network on the Binance [Deposit] page, the "Minimum Deposit" amount is shown at the bottom of the page. Transactions below this amount, though successful on-chain, will not be credited to your account balance.

When is it considered complete?: You have confirmed you have sufficient balance to cover the gas fee, and the deposit amount meets Binance's minimum requirement.

Step 4: Initiate Transaction and Check Confirmation Progress

Paste the Binance deposit address (and Memo/Tag, if applicable) on the sending platform, select the matching network, enter the amount, and submit. After the transaction is submitted, you need to wait for blockchain confirmations.

How to Track Progress:

  1. Copy the transaction hash (TxID).

  2. Open the block explorer for the corresponding network (Etherscan for ERC20, Tronscan for TRC20, BscScan for BEP20), paste the TxID to check the status.

  3. Your assets will be credited only after the status shows "Success" and the number of confirmations meets Binance's requirement.

When is it considered complete?: The transaction shows "Success" on the block explorer and your Binance account balance has been updated.

Step 5: Confirm Deposit Arrival

Go to Binance [Funds] - [Spot Account] or [Funding Account] and check whether the balance of the corresponding coin has increased.

If the transaction is confirmed on-chain but not showing in your Binance account, it could be due to block syncing delay or network congestion; it usually arrives within a few hours. If it still hasn't appeared after a reasonable time, you can submit a ticket via the Binance Help Center, attaching the TxID and screenshots.

When is it considered complete?: The corresponding asset is shown in your Binance account balance and you can trade or withdraw normally.

Common Risk Reminders

  • Choosing the wrong network is the most common fatal error in deposits: sending ERC20 USDT to a TRC20 address means the assets go to the wrong chain and cannot be automatically recovered.

  • For first-time operations, it is recommended to send a small test amount first (e.g., 10 USDT), and only send large amounts after confirming the deposit has arrived.

  • T+1 withdrawal restriction applies after C2C purchases: Assets bought via P2P cannot be withdrawn to external wallets on the same day; you must wait until the next day.
