How to Repay Cross Margin Liabilities by Coin on Binance

In Binance Cross Margin mode, repaying by specific coin is mainly achieved through the Close Position function – the system automatically repays all liabilities in that coin and converts the remaining assets to your chosen settlement coin at market price. If you need to precisely control the repayment amount without closing the position, you must manually use the Repay function to sell designated assets and settle the outstanding debt.

Cross Margin liability repayment falls into two paths: automatic full repayment and manual single repayment, depending on whether your goal is to exit the position completely or simply reduce debt.

Prerequisites

  1. You are logged into your Binance account and have switched to [Margin Trading] – [Cross] mode.

  2. You have outstanding liabilities in your Cross Margin account. The Close Position function is available when the position value is above 10 USDT or below 0 USDT; different rules apply when the value is below 0.

  3. You hold sufficient assets in the corresponding coin, or are willing to sell other assets for repayment.

Step 1: Check Your Cross Margin Liabilities

Go to [Trade] – [Margin], select [Cross] mode. Scroll down to the [Positions] tab to view the position value of each coin. Positive values represent assets, negative values represent liabilities.

Case A: Position Value > 10 USDT

  • The coin has positive assets or a small amount of debt. You can use the "Close Position" function for one-click processing.

Case B: Position Value < 0 (Negative Position)

  • The coin is in a liability state, and the assets of that coin in your account are insufficient to cover the debt. The Close Position function will then prompt that the system will sell other assets to repay the remaining debt.

Completion Standard: Clearly identify which coins in your account are in a liability state and the amount of debt.

Step 2: Choose a Repayment Path

Based on your objective, select the corresponding operation:

Path A: One-Click Close Position (Close a Single Coin Position) – For those wanting to exit completely This function repays all outstanding debts of the selected coin and converts the remaining assets to your designated settlement coin at market price.

  1. In the Cross Margin [Positions] tab, click the [Close Position] button next to the target position.

  2. Select the closing ratio, e.g., 50% or 100%, and choose the settlement coin for the remaining assets.

  3. The system automatically repays all liabilities in that coin; remaining assets are sold at market price. If the position value is negative, the system will show the priority order for selling other assets.

  4. Confirm and submit the request. Note: You cannot modify the position during execution, and large positions may experience slippage.

Path B: Manual Repay (Repay with Designated Assets) – For those wanting only to repay debt, not close the position This function does not alter the holding structure. It repays a single coin's liability, with you designating which asset to sell for repayment.

  1. Go to the [Positions] tab of the Cross Margin account, find the coin with a negative position, and click the [Repay] button.

  2. The system displays the current total outstanding debt for that coin.

  3. If you hold positive assets of that coin, you can directly use them to repay without selling other assets.

  4. If the coin's assets are insufficient, you need to choose to sell other assets for repayment. The system will prompt a priority order of which assets to sell first.

  5. After confirming the repayment amount, submit. Note that if the remaining outstanding debt falls below the system minimum threshold, an error will occur; adjust to full repayment.

Path C: Repay All (Batch Cleanup) – For clearing all liabilities at once This function cancels all open orders and fully repays all outstanding debts in the Cross Margin account without selling remaining assets.

  1. In the Cross Margin [Positions] tab, click [Repay All].

  2. The system cancels all open orders and uses available assets in the account to repay all liabilities.

  3. This request requires the total net debt to be below 150,000 USDT equivalent; otherwise it must be processed in batches.

Completion Standard: The operation path corresponding to your goal has been selected and the request has been submitted.

Step 3: Confirm the Repayment Result

After submission, check the debt balance of that coin on the [Positions] page.

Completion Standard: The target coin's debt balance shows 0 or has been reduced to an acceptable range. To verify history, check the Close/Repay records in the Margin Account [History].

Common Failure Reasons

Repayment amount exceeds liabilities or falls below the minimum limit

When manually repaying, if the entered amount exceeds the current outstanding loan, the system will error that the repayment amount exceeds the loan. If the remaining debt after repayment is below the system minimum, it will also error; full repayment is recommended.

Risk Warnings

  • Positions cannot be modified during Close/Repay: After submitting a "Close Position" or "Repay All" request, no modifications can be made to the position until the operation is complete, including placing orders, transfers, borrow/repay. Large positions may experience slippage.

  • Liquidation deficit must be repaid in USDC: If liquidation was triggered and the account equity turned negative, the resulting deficit debt is denominated in USDC and must be repaid separately through relevant channels.

  • Insufficient system inventory may cause repayment failure: If the platform does not have enough of the asset available for operation, a repayment failure message may appear. Adjust your repayment strategy or wait for inventory to recover.

How to Confirm Operation Completion

After the operation, refresh the [Positions] page to verify the target coin's debt balance is 0 and available assets have been updated. For full verification, check the detailed records of the close or repay action in the Margin Account [History].
