Why Binance Did Not Automatically Repay After Auto-Borrow
When using the auto-borrow feature in Binance margin trading, the borrowed amount is not automatically repaid after the order is filled. This usually happens because you selected "Auto-Borrow" mode instead of "Auto-Repay" mode when placing the order. If you chose "Borrow," the system only borrows and does not repay; only when you choose "Repay" mode will the system automatically use the proceeds to repay the debt after you sell the asset.

Here is a complete explanation of the mechanism and troubleshooting steps.
Prerequisites
- You have placed an order on the Binance margin trading page.
- You selected the "Auto-Borrow" option when placing the order.
- The order was filled, but you still see a liability in the margin account.
Step 1: Confirm Which Automation Mode You Selected When Placing the Order
Binance margin trading supports three order modes, each with completely different logic:
Case A: Auto-Borrow Mode
With this mode, the system automatically borrows insufficient funds to complete the trade. However, seeing "borrow" completed does not mean "repay" will happen automatically — it only handles the borrowing step. After the order is filled, the liability remains in the account, and interest begins accruing immediately.
Case B: Auto-Repay Mode
With this mode, after the order is filled, the system automatically uses the received assets to repay the corresponding liability. This is what you want — "sell asset → auto-repay debt."
Case C: Normal Mode
Neither auto-borrow nor auto-repay; you need to manually borrow and repay on the margin platform.
Completion Criteria: Go to the margin trading page and check whether the mode you just selected was "Borrow" or "Repay".
Step 2: If You Selected "Borrow," Repay Manually
If you used auto-borrow mode, the liability remains after the order fills. You need to:
- Go to the margin account page and check the current liability amount.
- Click "Repay" or "Repay," and the system will automatically use your available balance to repay as much as possible.
- If the balance is insufficient, transfer enough assets first and then repay.
Completion Criteria: The liability for that coin in the margin account shows 0.
Step 3: If You Selected "Repay" but Still Not Fully Repaid, Check if the "Secondary Repayment" Rule Was Triggered
Even with auto-repay mode, partial amounts may remain unpaid, typically due to:
Reason 1: The filled amount was not enough to cover the full liability
Auto-repay only uses the received funds to repay. If slippage, fees, etc. cause the actual received asset to be less than the liability, the system will partially repay what it can. The remaining debt requires manual repayment.
Reason 2: Funds were moved after the fill
There is a brief processing time before auto-repay. If during that time you use the received funds for another order, leading to insufficient available balance, repayment will fail. The system will then attempt to repay using 90% of the received funds; if this second attempt also fails, manual handling is needed.
Completion Criteria: Verify whether your available balance covers the remaining liability, and confirm whether the system attempted an auto-repay.
Step 4: Check if Interest Accrual Caused the Liability to Slightly Increase
Binance margin interest updates every minute, continuously accruing onto the outstanding borrowed loan. Auto-repay prioritizes paying interest before principal. If you waited some time after borrowing before selling, the accumulated interest might cause the original borrow amount to be insufficient to cover the full liability.
Completion Criteria: Check the interest portion in the liability to see if it caused the incomplete repayment.
Common Reasons for Failure
Confusing the functional boundaries of "Auto-Borrow" and "Auto-Repay"
"Auto-Borrow" only handles borrowing at the moment of order placement, not later repayment. "Auto-Repay" only handles repayment after order fill, not borrowing. They are independent, not a single switch. If you want a full cycle of borrow+buy+sell+repay, you need to use "Borrow" when buying and "Repay" when selling, or use a combo mode (AUTO_BORROW_REPAY), which can simultaneously borrow and repay, but this mode is not available for certain order types.
Risk Reminder
- Interest accumulates continuously: As long as a liability exists, interest is calculated by the minute and added to the debt. Do not assume "the system will handle it automatically" and leave it unattended.
- Borrowing may fail when system inventory is insufficient: If you see error code -3045, it means the platform currently lacks enough of that asset to lend, and the auto-borrow order may not be completed.
- Auto-repay may silently fail: Auto-repay orders can fail due to system concurrent transaction limits and may not return a clear error message. It is advisable to promptly check the outstanding loan balance after auto-repay is executed.

How to Confirm the Operation Is Complete
Go to the margin account page and check the "Liability" or "Outstanding Loan" field for the corresponding coin. If it shows 0, the loan is fully repaid. If a balance remains, follow the steps above based on the mode you selected, and manually repay or adjust accordingly.
If you want the "sell and repay" effect, make sure you select Auto-Repay mode (Repay), not Auto-Borrow mode (Borrow), the next time you place an order.
