How to Buy Binance Commodity Options? Premium, Expiry and Closing

Binance commodity options currently cover only gold (XAUUSDT) and silver (XAGUSDT). They officially launched on July 29, 2026. They use the same system and interface as crypto options on Binance, but trading hours, expiry structure and retail permissions are quite different from crypto options. As a buyer, your maximum loss is the premium you pay. There is no liquidation risk.

What you can and cannot trade right now

Currently there are only two underlying assets: gold and silver. Each offers two expiry structures: 1 day and 1 week. The contracts are European style, so they can only be exercised on the expiry date. But before expiry, you can sell to close at any time to lock in profit or cut losses.

At this stage, retail users can only be buyers: buy calls or puts to open, and sell to close. You cannot sell to open, which means you cannot be an options seller and collect premium. This is different from crypto options. Binance BTC options already allow selling, but commodity options do not yet support it.

Trading path and fees

On the Binance app or website, go to the Options section under the Futures tab. Select XAUUSDT or XAGUSDT, then choose the expiry date, strike price, call or put, enter the price and quantity, and place your order.

There is currently a promotional fee rate: Maker 0%, Taker 0.020%. The promotion started at launch, and the end date has not been announced. For comparison, the regular fee for Binance crypto options is about 0.02% trading fee plus 0.015% exercise fee.

How premium and profit/loss are calculated

The premium is the cost you pay when buying an option. It is also your maximum possible loss as a buyer. For example: gold is at $2,300, and you pay a $100 premium to buy a call option with a strike price of $2,400. Gold must rise to $2,500 (strike price + premium) before you start making a profit. $2,500 is your break-even point. If gold is below $2,400, the option expires worthless and you lose $100. If gold is between $2,400 and $2,500, exercising can recover part of the cost but you still lose overall. Above $2,500, the extra amount is your net profit.

The most important limitation: trading hours are not continuous

This is the biggest difference between commodity options and crypto options. Commodity options do not trade 24 hours a day. They follow the trading hours of the underlying market: Sunday 18:00 (Eastern Time) to Friday 17:00 (Eastern Time), with a daily break from 17:00 to 18:00.

During the break, you cannot place orders, and existing orders will not be matched. This means you cannot adjust your position on weekends or during the daily break. If your position is already in a bad spot before the market closes, you can only wait until it reopens to deal with it. Binance's risk warning also clearly states that TradFi Options can only be traded during regular market hours.

How to decide if it suits you

If you already know how Binance crypto options work and want to use USDT as margin to trade the direction or volatility of gold and silver, commodity options offer a direct path. The trading logic is exactly the same, so you do not need to learn a new order system. The buyer's risk is fixed: you can lose at most the premium, and there is no forced liquidation level.

But if you are used to entering and exiting anytime like trading crypto assets, pay special attention to the market closure rules. The liquidity and price continuity of commodity options are limited by the opening hours of the underlying market. Holding a position overnight means you must accept the risk of being unable to act during the break. In addition, retail users currently cannot sell to open. If your strategy depends on collecting premium, such as covered calls or cash-secured puts, commodity options do not support that yet.
