First, the Official Calculation Formula
Binance's official logic for ADL priority score calculation is as follows:
ADL Priority Score = Unrealized Profit Percentage × Effective Leverage
Unrealized Profit Percentage: Position's unrealized gain ÷ Absolute value of the position's notional value
Effective Leverage: Notional position value ÷ (Wallet balance + Unrealized gain)
Only profitable positions are included in the ADL ranking. Losing positions follow different calculation rules, and normally will not appear at the front of the queue.
Profit vs Leverage: Which Has a Bigger Impact?
You can see clearly from the formula: The two factors are multiplied directly, there is no absolute "more impactful" one. A rise in either factor will make your ADL score jump sharply.
Two simple examples explain this clearly:
Example 1: High unrealized profit, low leverage Unrealized position profit 50%, leverage 3x. Score = 50% × 3 = 1.5
Example 2: Moderate unrealized profit, high leverage Unrealized position profit 20%, leverage 20x. Score = 20% × 20 = 4
The score of Example 2 is more than double that of Example 1. Even if its unrealized profit is only half of Example 1, the high leverage pulls the total score far higher.

Most Likely Reasons for Sudden ADL Rank Rise
Market moves favorably to you, unrealized profit rises quickly: The price moves further in the direction of your open position, your unrealized profit ratio goes up, and your ADL score rises naturally.
Traders on the opposite side of the market get liquidated at the same time: Your high profit and high leverage position becomes the system's top pick to cover counterparty bankruptcy losses.
Insurance fund is under temporary pressure: There are too many liquidated positions in extreme market conditions, the insurance fund cannot cover all losses, and the ADL trigger window opens.
You can check the ADL indicator on your trading page — 5 full lit bars mean you are at the very top of the ADL queue and may get deleveraged at any time. If you see the indicator jump from 2 bars to 5 bars suddenly, it means your unrealized profit or leverage has changed a lot.

Verification and Fix Steps
Open the position panel on your futures trading page, check the ADL indicator — if it is nearly full, your current ADL rank is very high.
Lower your leverage: This is the most direct and effective measure, your ADL score will drop immediately once you cut leverage.
Take partial profit: This reduces your unrealized profit ratio, and also cuts the notional value of your position, lowering your score from two sides.
If you do not want to get forcibly deleveraged, when you see the ADL indicator lights up to 4 bars or more, we suggest you manually take partial profit or lower your leverage first, do not wait for the system to execute auto-deleveraging on your position.
