The Core Difference from a Seed Phrase Wallet
A social login wallet does not require you to manually back up a seed phrase when creating it. Keys are generated and signed in a TEE, and you can use the wallet simply by logging in with Google, Apple, or email.
With a seed phrase wallet, keys are generated and managed entirely on your own device, and you are responsible for backup and recovery. The key management methods differ, but in both cases OKX cannot access your private keys.
Recovery Limits: Your Social Account Is the Key
The recovery logic for a social login wallet is: log in with the same social account on a supported platform, and the wallet will be restored. Supported platforms include the OKX App, OKX Wallet App, browser extension, web platform, and Agentic Wallet.
There is one easily overlooked branch here: the iOS OKX Wallet App uses a separate Apple developer entity, so the same Apple ID may be recognized as a different account in the OKX App and the iOS OKX Wallet App, creating different wallets. If you created a wallet in one app and then log in with the same Apple ID in the other app, you will see an empty wallet instead of your original assets.
If your social account is suspended or you cannot log in, the official path is: if you can still access the wallet and the platform supports withdrawals, complete security code verification and export the seed phrase, then migrate to a standard seed phrase wallet. If you can no longer log in, the only option is to contact official customer support. Whether recovery is possible depends on the account status and available security code verification methods.
Access to your social account is part of this wallet security model. Treat your Google or Apple account security settings (strong password, two-factor authentication, recovery email/phone) as a prerequisite for wallet security.
Exporting the Seed Phrase: Possible, But It Changes the Wallet
A social login wallet can export its seed phrase, but this step is not without consequences.
Exporting requires the current platform to support withdrawals, and you must complete security code verification. After exporting, the original wallet will become a standard seed phrase wallet. You must re-import it using the exported seed phrase. The original social account will then be linked to a brand-new empty wallet.
In other words, exporting is a one-way process. You switch from "social login recovery" mode to "seed phrase recovery" mode, and the original social account can no longer recover the address that holds your assets.
After exporting, treat the seed phrase like any other seed phrase wallet: no screenshots, no cloud storage uploads, and never share it with anyone. Anyone who gets the seed phrase can control the assets.
Comparison with Keyless Wallets
OKX also has a type of "keyless wallet" where keys are not stored on the local device at all, so they cannot be exported or backed up. A social login wallet is not the same thing—social login wallets support exporting, while keyless wallets do not.
If you are using an AA smart contract account, the export path depends on which type of wallet the account was created under: an AA account under a seed phrase wallet can back up the seed phrase or private key, an AA account under a private key wallet backs up the private key, and an AA account under a keyless wallet cannot be backed up.
Safer Ways to Use It
If you plan to hold more than "just testing" amounts in a social login wallet, exporting the seed phrase and re-importing it as a standard wallet is the safer choice. The trade-off is that you need to store the seed phrase yourself, but in return you gain continuous access that does not depend on your Google/Apple account or on OKX's continued support for social login features.
If you only use the social login wallet for small transactions or trying out DApps, its convenience is worth accepting. But do not treat your social account's recovery ability as equal to the security guarantee of a seed phrase backup—social accounts can be suspended, hacked, or affected by platform policy changes, while a properly backed up seed phrase is not affected by any third-party status.
