Why OKX Smart Sync Shows a Different Position than in Copy Orders
The position shown under Smart Sync and the count shown in the Copy Orders tab are different because they use two different layers of display logic. The "segregated position" feature of Smart Sync separates copy trading positions from manual trading positions. Meanwhile, the Copy Orders tab counts the number of open copy order tickets – even if you have multiple copy orders for the same symbol, they are displayed as only one position on the Positions page.

This is the designed behavior of the OKX copy trading system, not a data error. Below we explain the display logic in detail.
Prerequisites
You are using "Smart Copy" mode in the OKX copy trading system.
You have traded both the contract and spot of the same symbol (or have placed multiple orders).
You have compared the "Copy Orders" tab with the "Positions" page and found that the numbers do not match.
Step 1: Understand the segregated margin mechanism in Smart Sync
In Smart Sync mode, your copy trading funds are locked to a single lead trader and segregated from funds for manual trading positions. When the lead trader opens a position, the system calculates the order size for your copy trade proportionally based on the ratio of the trader's position to their total account.
For example: If the lead trader uses a 10,000 USDT account to open a 1,000 USDT position (10% of the account), and you are copying with 1,000 USDT, the system will open a 100 USDT position for you (also 10%).
This mechanism creates a physical segregation between your copy trading funds and your manual trading funds – therefore manual trades and copied trades are calculated and displayed separately in the interface and will not be merged.
Completion criteria: You understand that your copied position and your manual position are operated with two independent pools of funds.
Step 2: Distinguish the counting logic for the "Positions" tab and the "Copy Orders" tab
The numbers in brackets on the two tabs mean different things:
| Tab | Meaning of bracket number | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Positions | Number of active contract symbols (by symbol) | Contract positions for the same symbol are merged into one, regardless of the number of order tickets |
| Copy Orders | Number of active copy order tickets (by order) | Contract and spot orders are counted individually; multiple orders for the same symbol are also counted individually |
Example: If you create two copy order tickets for DOGEUSDT, you will see the number on the "Copy Orders" tab become 2, while the number on the "Positions" tab remains 1 (only indicating that you hold a DOGEUSDT contract position).
Completion criteria: You can use the table above with your own order situation to understand where the numerical difference comes from.
Step 3: Understand the count difference caused by opening both contract and spot copy orders
If you hold both a contract position and a spot position for the same symbol, the "Positions" tab only aggregates the value of contract positions; spot trades are displayed elsewhere.
The "Copy Orders" tab, on the other hand, counts both contract and spot orders, showing the total number of open copy order tickets (including contract and spot).
Completion criteria: Check whether you hold both contract and spot positions. If yes, it is completely normal for the two tab numbers to differ.
Step 4: Understand the display difference between "Aggregated Position" and "Detailed Position"
In the Copy Trade Management page, copied positions are shown in two display forms:
Detailed Position: Displays the position corresponding to each individual filled order ticket.
Aggregated Position: Displays the total position held under each trading instrument (all orders combined).
If an order did not send a copy signal due to risk control reasons, that order is still included in the "Aggregated Position". This is another reason why the total number of order tickets may differ from what is shown on the Positions page.
Completion criteria: On the Copy Trade Management page, switch between the "Detailed" and "Aggregated" views to identify the source of the discrepancy.
Common misunderstanding
Assuming that the number on the "Copy Orders" tab equals the number of contract positions shown under "Positions"
Many people think the system has a counting error when they see the two numbers differ. In fact, these two numbers answer different questions: "Positions" tells you how many symbols you are holding, while "Copy Orders" tells you how many open copy order tickets you still have.
Risk note
Segregated funds do not affect position synchronization: Although copy trading funds and manual trading funds are segregated, Smart Sync mode automatically keeps your copy trading parameters – opening, leverage, and margin – aligned with the lead trader.
In Smart Sync mode, copy trading risk control is managed by the lead trader: Because your position, leverage, and margin are synchronized with the trader, risk control authority is delegated to the lead trader.

How to verify the operation
Go to the Copy Trading → Copy Trade Management page and check the two values:
The number on the Positions tab – represents the number of contract symbols you are holding.
The number on the Copy Orders tab – represents your current number of active copy order tickets.
If the two numbers are different, use the logic above to check whether you hold both contract and spot positions, or have multiple copy order tickets for the same symbol. Once confirmed, you can conclude that this is a normal display difference and no action is needed.
