How to Prove Address Ownership for Withdrawals to a Self-Custody Wallet on OKX

When withdrawing from OKX to a self-custody wallet, there are two ways to prove address ownership: "Electronic Signature" and "Satoshi Test." The system recommends electronic signature by default—just sign in your wallet. If you choose electronic signature but cannot connect your wallet, you can switch to Satoshi Test, which verifies ownership by transferring a small amount to a specified address. The following explains both methods.

Prerequisites

You have initiated a withdrawal on OKX, and the system has prompted you to "verify address ownership."
You know that the destination address is a private wallet, not another exchange.
The withdrawal destination wallet (e.g., MetaMask, OKX Web3 Wallet) can be opened and used normally.

Step 1: Select "Private Wallet Address" in the Withdrawal Process

After initiating a withdrawal, the system will ask for the withdrawal destination. Choose "Private Wallet Address", not "Exchange or Trading Platform." The page will automatically proceed to the verification step.

Completion standard: See the verification method selection page, showing "Electronic Signature" or "Satoshi Test" options.

Step 2A: Verify with Electronic Signature (Recommended, Free)

This is the default verification method and does not incur any fees.

Click [Start Verification].
The page will provide wallet connection methods. If using OKX Web3 Wallet, you can directly select "OKX Wallet" to connect.
If using another wallet (like MetaMask), click [Other Wallets] and follow the prompts to connect. On the web, you can scan the code via WalletConnect; on the app, it can redirect directly.
After the wallet is connected successfully, the system will initiate a signature request. Note that this is only a signature operation, not a transfer, and no assets will be deducted.
Follow the wallet prompts to complete the signature operation.

Completion standard: The page displays "Verification Successful," meaning the verification has passed.

Currently, the OKX SG App does not support connecting other wallets. If you encounter connection issues, switch to the web version.

Step 2B: Verify with Satoshi Test (Alternative when Electronic Signature is Unavailable)

If the electronic signature method cannot connect to the wallet, or the current network is not supported, you can choose this method.

On the verification method page, click [Choose Other Verification Method] and select Satoshi Test.
Click [Start Verification]. The system will start a 90-minute countdown. You must complete all operations within this time limit.
The system will display the small deposit details:

Sending Address: The target wallet address you are verifying.
Receiving Address: The dedicated verification address provided by OKX.
Deposit Amount: A random small amount around 1-10 USDT.

Open your self-custody wallet and send the exact amount to the address specified by OKX. Network fees must be paid separately. Ensure the actual received amount matches the system requirement exactly.
After the transfer is completed, return to the OKX page and click [I have deposited].

Completion standard: Once the system detects the deposit, the status will automatically change to "Verification Successful."

The Satoshi Test incurs network transaction fees, which are borne by the user. After the test succeeds, the small amount will be deposited directly into your OKX account.

Step 3: Fill in Recipient Information and Continue Withdrawal

Regardless of the verification method used, after verification is passed, the system will ask you to fill in recipient information required by the Travel Rule, including name, country, etc. Follow the on-page prompts to complete and click [Continue] to finish the withdrawal.

Completion standard: The withdrawal request is submitted successfully and enters the platform's processing queue.

Common Failure Reasons

Signature request denied by wallet or timed out

On some mobile wallets, if you lock the screen or switch to the background during signing, it may cause the signature to fail. It is recommended to use a browser extension wallet on the web and keep the signing page in the foreground throughout the process.

Risk Reminders

90-minute validity for Satoshi Test: If the time limit is exceeded, you will need to re-initiate verification, and the network fee paid will not be refunded.
One-time verification is valid for 6 months: Once an address is successfully verified, future withdrawals to the same address within 6 months do not require re-verification.
Whitelist mode may affect the verification process: If you have enabled the withdrawal whitelist feature, you must first add the destination address to your address book before initiating a withdrawal.

How to Confirm Completion

After submitting the withdrawal, go to [Assets] - [Withdrawal History]. The status shows "Processing" or "Completed" meaning it's normal. If you chose the Satoshi Test, you can see the small test deposit in [Deposit History], confirming that address verification was successful.

If you used electronic signature, no on-chain record will be generated after verification. The page displaying "Verification Successful" indicates the operation is complete.
