The OKX contract funding rate is not fixed. Each trading pair has its own rate, and the settlement cycle may not always be 8 hours. The most direct way to check the funding rate and settlement time is right in the "Info" panel on the contract trading page – no need to dig through help articles.
Step 1: Find the current rate and settlement countdown on the trading page
What to do: Locate the current funding rate figure, its direction (positive or negative), and the time remaining until the next settlement for your chosen trading pair.
How to do it:
On the App: Open the OKX app, go to the Contract trading page, and select the pair you want to check (e.g., BTCUSDT). In the area below the K‑line chart or at the top‑right corner, find the Funding Rate field. Tap it to expand the details. You will see whether the current rate is positive or negative, the exact settlement timestamp, and an estimate of how much you would pay or receive on your current position at this rate.
On the Web: Log in to OKX, go to Trade → Contracts. After selecting a trading pair, you will see the Funding Rate and a Countdown to Next Settlement in the information bar at the top of the page or above the order book.
Completion check: You can clearly read the current funding rate (e.g., 0.01%), the direction (longs pay shorts / shorts pay longs), and exactly how many hours and minutes are left until settlement.
High‑risk warning: Settlement times are in UTC. Add 8 hours to get Beijing time. The default three settlement points are UTC 00:00, 08:00, and 16:00 – which are 08:00, 16:00, and 00:00 (next day) Beijing time. If you happen to be operating or open a position right at the settlement moment (the process can last about one minute), you may still need to pay or receive the current funding fee, even if you have only held the position for a few dozen seconds.
Step 2: Tell apart "default 8‑hour" and "high‑frequency settlement" contracts
Not all contracts settle every 8 hours.
What to do: Confirm whether your trading pair settles every 8 hours, or every 1, 2 or 4 hours.
How to do it: In the funding rate detail pop‑up from Step 1, look for a "4‑Hour Rate" label or a "Settlement Frequency" indicator. OKX may automatically adjust the settlement frequency for some contracts based on market conditions. When a contract's rate hits the upper or lower limit at settlement, the interval shortens step by step: 8 hours → 4 hours → 2 hours → 1 hour.
Completion check: You know exactly how often your open contract settles. If the frequency is not the default 8 hours, the page will clearly display it.
Common mistake: Many people focus only on the percentage figure and overlook the settlement frequency. A 1‑hour cycle means that if you hold a position all day, you'll pay or receive the funding fee 24 times – the cumulative cost is far greater than with the 8‑hour model.
Step 3: Check historical rates to see if the current rate is unusual
What to do: Compare the current rate with recent historical data to judge whether the rate has reached an extreme level.
How to do it: In the funding rate detail pop‑up on the app or website, find the Historical Funding Rate entry. Look at the rate curve over the past few hours to several days. If the rate stays positive and keeps rising, the longs are crowded and the cost of holding a long position is growing; if negative and falling, shorts are dominating.
Completion check: You have a rough idea of where the current rate sits within its recent normal range – whether it is just starting to climb or is already close to a historical peak.
Verification: Write down the current funding rate and the next settlement time. After that settlement time passes, go to Contracts → Funding Fee Records and check the deducted or credited amount for that period. Compare it with the rate shown on the page. If the numbers do not match, take a screenshot of the page information and contact OKX customer support for a review.
