You can place your first spot limit order on OKX in the "Buy" section of the spot trading page. The entry is in the trading tab of the OKX app or website. Choose the trading pair, switch to "Limit" mode, enter the price you are willing to pay and the amount, then place the order.
Step 1: Go to the spot trading page and choose a trading pair
Open the trading interface and find the trading pair for the coin you want to buy. In the OKX app, tap [Trade] at the bottom → tap the pair box in the top left to search, and select a mainstream pair like "BTC/USDT". For beginners, USDT pairs are the easiest to use because the prices are clear. On the website, click [Trade] → [Spot] in the top left of the homepage. After entering, you will land on the BTC/USDT spot trading page, where you can see the candlestick chart and the order book.
Step 2: Switch to "Limit" mode
The default mode in the order area might be "Market". Manually switch it to "Limit". Find the mode switch option in the buy section and change from "Market" to "Limit". After switching, you will see two input boxes: one for the price and one for the amount. Once done, the order area will show that the current order type is "Limit".
Step 3: Enter your price and amount, then place the order
Enter your target buy price and the amount you want to buy, then submit the order. In the "Price" field, enter a price you think is reasonable. For example, if the current market price is 65,000 USDT and you want to buy at 62,000, enter 62,000. In the "Amount" field, enter how many BTC you want to buy. After confirming, click [Buy BTC]. Your order will be placed, and you can see its status in the "Open Orders" list below. Once complete, the order will appear in the "Open Orders" list with the status "Waiting to be filled".
Risk Note
A limit order is not a market order: If the market price does not reach your set price, the order will stay open on the platform without being filled, and the corresponding funds will be frozen and cannot be used elsewhere. If the price never reaches your set level, you can manually cancel the order in "Open Orders", and the funds will be released immediately.
Common reasons for failure
The most common problem is entering a price that is too low and far from the current market price, so the market never drops to your target, and the order stays unfilled for a long time. Another case is that the buy amount you enter is below the platform's minimum trade size, and the system will show an error and prevent the order from being placed.
Next Steps
After placing your order, check its status in "Open Orders" — it should say "Open" or "Waiting to be filled". If the price was reached but you missed the fill notification, you can go to "Order History" to see the fill record and fee details. For first-time users, we recommend trying with a small amount to get familiar with the process before considering adding more.
