How to Set Price Range and Stop Profit/Loss for Your First OKX Grid

The core logic of setting the price range before starting a grid: put the upper and lower limits outside the recent price's "upper and lower bounds", then place stop-profit and stop-loss orders just outside those bounds as a "safety rope". If the range is too narrow, the price will break through the grid quickly; without stop-profit/stop-loss, losses can keep growing in a trending market.

OKX spot grid is created in the "Strategy Trading" mode, supporting both "Smart Create" and "Manual Create". Beginners are advised to start with Smart Create to understand parameters, then switch to manual once familiar.

Step 1: Enter the Spot Grid Creation Page, Select Trading Pair

Open the spot grid strategy creation entry: On OKX App homepage, tap [Trade] → [Strategy] → [Spot Grid], select the trading pair. For beginners, the ratio of capital to grid number is recommended to refer to the AI-recommended parameters on the platform. Then you'll enter the grid strategy parameter setting page.

Step 2: Set Price Range – Upper and Lower Limits Cover Recent Fluctuation Range

Enter the "Lowest Price" and "Highest Price" for the range. The bot will only buy and sell automatically within this price range. Set the range based on recent price highs and lows, covering the likely fluctuation range. If the range is too small, once the price breaks through the upper or lower limit, the bot stops working and your holdings may show unrealized losses.

Risk reminder: When the price falls below the lower limit, all funds will be converted into the coin, facing downside risk; when the price breaks above the upper limit, all coins will be sold, missing further gains. The wider the range, the lower the capital utilization, but less likely to be shaken out by a trending market.

Step 3: Set Stop Profit and Stop Loss Prices

On the grid creation page below, find the "Stop Profit Price" and "Stop Loss Price" fields. Set the stop-profit price above the upper limit of the range, and the stop-loss price below the lower limit. When the price breaks above the stop-profit level, the strategy will automatically terminate and sell the position; when it breaks below the stop-loss level, the strategy will automatically terminate and market-close the position to limit losses. After confirming parameters, submit to create the strategy.

Reasons for Common Failures

The most common problem is setting the upper and lower boundaries too narrow, trying to "accurately arbitrage", resulting in the grid being breached by a small price fluctuation, the bot stops, leaving high-cost positions. Another common mistake is only setting a price range without stop-profit/stop-loss; if the price doesn't return to the range for a long time after breakout, losses will keep growing.

Notes for Subsequent Operations

After creating the strategy, check in the "Strategy" list that the running status is normal. To confirm the stop-profit/stop-loss logic, you can check current orders and positions on the strategy details page. It's recommended to run a full cycle with a small amount first, observe the trigger process, and only then scale up the capital after full understanding.
