After an ACH deposit is returned, OKX will require you to make up the amount. Your account will be in a restricted state, and withdrawals and some features will not work. The crypto you previously bought with this money is usually not immediately force-sold, but if you do not complete repayment within 5 days after the return is processed, OKX reserves the right to deduct funds from your existing account balance, which may include selling your assets to cover the debt. So the key action is: first confirm the debt amount and the deadline, and complete a new deposit through the repayment process supported by OKX before the deadline, rather than waiting for it to automatically deduct from your crypto.

First figure out which step you are stuck at
An ACH return means that the ACH deposit you initiated from a US bank account was sent back to the bank after reaching OKX. Common reasons include insufficient bank account balance, wrong account number, or the bank blocking transfers to crypto exchanges. OKX's rule is: after a return happens, you owe OKX an amount equal to the returned deposit.
The crypto you already bought in your account is usually still there when the return happens. But the account will be temporarily restricted, and withdrawals and some features will be unavailable until the debt is settled. So if you see "you have crypto but cannot withdraw it," that is a normal restricted state, not lost crypto.
Check email or app notifications for the debt amount and deadline
OKX will send you an email after the ACH return happens, stating the exact debt amount and the repayment deadline. There will also be a notice of the unpaid balance in the app. If you cannot find the email, log in to OKX and check in-app notifications or the asset page. The repayment entry will guide you to see the amount due.
The deadline is 5 days from the day the return is processed and cannot be extended. This period is automatically enforced by the system, not something customer service can manually extend. After this time, OKX's next step is to deduct funds from your account balance.
Repayment can only be made with a "new ACH deposit," not with crypto or balance
This is where people most often get stuck. OKX officially states: repayment does not support domestic wire, does not support using your existing USD balance, and does not support using cryptocurrency deposits. The only supported path is to initiate a new ACH deposit equal to the debt amount.
You can access the operation entry in two places: the Repay button in the email notification, or the unpaid balance notice in the app, or manually go through the "Deposit > USD" flow. The system will guide you to complete the repayment deposit, and you can see the amount due and the deadline during the process.
If you encounter problems when initiating the repayment ACH, such as the bank rejecting it or the system not letting you go through the repayment flow, you need to contact OKX customer service. The official explanation is: not all accounts are eligible for this repayment flow, depending on account history and the reason for the return. When contacting customer service, you can use keywords like "ACH return" or "ACH payback" to speed up routing.
What happens to your crypto if you do not repay
After the 5-day deadline passes, OKX reserves the right to recover funds from your existing account balance, which may involve liquidating assets in your account to cover the debt. The official help page does not specify which asset is liquidated first, at what price, or the priority order. What is certain is: this is not "crypto being confiscated," but using your assets to repay the fiat deposit you owe. The remaining portion should still belong to you in theory, but the account may face further restrictions or even closure.
So if you plan to continue using this account, or do not want to be force-sold at an uncertain time, the safer approach is to complete repayment before the deadline. If you truly cannot repay, you also need to contact customer service to explain the situation, rather than waiting for the system to process it automatically.
Restrictions will not be lifted immediately after repayment arrives
After you initiate a new ACH repayment deposit, OKX needs up to 5 business days to clear the deposit. After clearing is complete and funds arrive, the account restrictions will be automatically lifted, and OKX will send you a confirmation email. So the answer to "I repaid yesterday, why can I still not withdraw crypto" is: the repayment deposit itself needs clearing time. It does not recover immediately after submission.
Before recovery, do not repeatedly try to withdraw or submit new repayment deposits. First confirm that the ACH repayment you initiated has succeeded on the bank side and shows as processing on the OKX side, then wait for clearing to complete.
What you can do now with the crypto you bought
During the account restriction period, you cannot withdraw crypto. Whether you can trade depends on the specific scope of the restriction. The official help page only says "you may be unable to withdraw crypto or access certain features." If you need to confirm what your current account can still do, checking the actual status of the feature pages after logging in is more reliable than guessing.
If you complete repayment before the deadline, your crypto will still be there after the account recovers, and you can withdraw it normally or continue holding. If you do not plan to continue using OKX US services, after repayment and recovery, first withdraw the crypto to an external wallet or sell it, then handle fiat withdrawal. That is a cleaner exit method. But the premise of this step is to first settle the debt and unlock the account.
