Have UNI in your wallet but the governance page shows zero voting power?

If you hold UNI in your wallet but the governance page shows zero voting power, there is only one reason: you have not yet delegated your UNI to any address, including yourself. UNI tokens do not automatically give you voting power. Holding them is only the first step. Delegation is the action that activates your voting power. The Uniswap official documentation puts it clearly: "UNI holders cannot vote or create proposals until they delegate their voting rights to an address." That address can be yourself or someone else.

Delegation is not a transfer and your tokens never leave your wallet

Many people get stuck here because they misunderstand "delegate" as "deposit tokens into a contract" or "send tokens to a representative." The reality is: delegation only assigns voting power. Your tokens always stay in your wallet, and you keep full custody and control of them at all times. Delegation is recorded on-chain, so you need to pay gas, but there is no fund risk beyond that.

You can complete this in the Uniswap governance panel, usually accessed through Agora or Tally. After you connect your wallet, find your address or profile page, select Self Delegate, and confirm the transaction in your wallet. Once the transaction is confirmed on-chain, the voting power on the governance page will update from zero to the amount of UNI you hold.

A hard timing rule: delegation must be done before voting starts

Delegation is not something you can do at any time and still have it count. Uniswap officially compares this to voter registration: if you want your vote to count in a specific proposal, your delegation must already be completed before the voting period begins. If a proposal has already entered the voting stage and you delegate only then, your vote will not apply retroactively.

So if you open the governance page now and see zero voting power, and the proposal you care about is already in Active status, even immediate delegation will not let you participate in that round. After delegating, your voting power will be ready for the next proposal.

Who to delegate to: vote yourself or hand it to a representative

Self delegation means you keep the right to vote yourself. Each time there is an active proposal, you need to cast your own vote. If you do not want to research every proposal, you can delegate to a representative address you trust. The Uniswap governance forum has a Delegation Pitch section where representatives explain their positions and voting tendencies. You can use that as a reference when choosing.

Delegation can be changed at any time. It is not locked forever. If you are unhappy with how a representative votes later, you can delegate back to yourself or switch to someone else.

What to do now

Open your usual Uniswap governance portal, such as the Uniswap page on Agora or Tally, and connect the wallet that holds UNI. Find the delegation option, select Self Delegate, and confirm the on-chain transaction. After the transaction is confirmed, refresh the page and the zero voting power should disappear. If the page still shows zero, check whether you connected the correct wallet address and whether the delegation transaction was actually confirmed on-chain. You can check the transaction status on Etherscan.
