Changing devices with the same wallet address means your fund shares are not affected at all. Your fund shares are linked to a wallet address, not to a device or a private key.
Key Difference: Device ≠ Address
First, check which situation applies to you:
Case A: You import the same wallet address to a new device (shares stay the same)
This is the most common case. If you use your recovery phrase to restore the same wallet on a new phone, or use cloud backup to restore the same MPC wallet, your wallet address stays the same. The fund whitelist still points to that address. The holder record in the share register is also unchanged, so your shares are not affected. You do not need to notify the fund or repeat whitelist verification.
Case B: You use a completely new wallet address (shares are not on the new address)
If you generate a new address on the new device and use it as the receiving address, you need to complete KYC and whitelist steps again before you can transfer shares to that new address. But this is not losing shares. It means you must actively complete a share transfer. You move the fund tokens from your old address to the new address on the fund platform.
Why a New Address Needs Whitelisting Again
Tokenized money market funds use permissioned tokens. The most common standard is ERC-3643, which supports identity checks and transfer controls. The basic logic is:
Fund shares are treated as financial instruments and are regulated by securities laws.
The contract-level
transfer()function runs a whitelist check (preCheck) before a transfer.A transfer agent maintains the wallet whitelist and the official holder register.
The Singapore Guardian Fund Framework states that on-chain and off-chain records need to be reconciled regularly, so the total supply matches the register. If you try to receive shares at a new address that is not on the whitelist, the contract will reject the transfer.
Whitelist Rules for Typical Products
BlackRock BUIDL Fund: Uses a whitelist system. Tokens can only be transferred to whitelist addresses. Transfers to unapproved addresses fail. It also has a minimum investment threshold of USD 5 million for individuals.
Fidelity tokenized fund: Works with Apex Group for investor onboarding and wallet whitelist management.
Ondo OUSG: Only addresses that pass KYC/AML checks can hold and transfer the token.
BlackRock's new tokenized money market fund: Also uses a whitelist system. Wallet addresses must pass identity verification before they can hold or transfer shares.
Common Reasons for Problems
After switching to a new phone, you used your recovery phrase to create a new address instead of restoring the old one. A different address means the whitelist does not include it, so you cannot receive shares.
You restored the old address, but the fund platform has not finished its regular reconciliation of on-chain and off-chain records. Your shares are not lost, but some parts of the platform may not show the latest holdings until reconciliation is complete.
Next Steps
Before switching devices: Confirm that your recovery method will restore the same wallet address. Use your recovery phrase to restore the same address, or use cloud backup to restore the same MPC wallet.
After switching devices: Check whether the wallet address matches the old device.
If you are using a new address: Contact the fund issuer or use the fund app to complete whitelist verification. Finish compliance checks such as KYC/KYB and investor eligibility, then start the share transfer.
