Installing Rabby itself is not complicated. The tricky parts come later: connecting a hardware wallet and deciding whether to approve a signature request. Many users get stuck not because they cannot click buttons, but because they do not understand what the transaction will actually change or where their assets will move after signing. That is exactly where Rabby's core value lies—it shows a simulation result before you sign, giving you a chance to spot problems before pressing confirm.

Which Version to Start With: Extension, Mobile, or Desktop
Rabby has four entry points: a browser extension, a mobile app (iOS/Android), a desktop client, and an expanding web version. Which one you choose depends on whether you plan to use a cold wallet or hot wallet, and whether you mainly operate on a computer or phone.
The browser extension is the most complete version. It supports Chrome, Brave, and Edge, and it is the most mature option for connecting hardware wallets. If you plan to use a Ledger or Trezor to sign large transactions, the extension is the most reliable choice right now.
The mobile app is good for daily checking and light operations. It supports Bluetooth connections for Ledger and Trezor. However, mobile support for hardware wallets is narrower than the extension. If you use other brands like OneKey or Keystone, check first whether the mobile app lists your device.
The desktop client has a special role: it does not accept seed phrase or private key imports. It only lets you manage addresses through a hardware wallet or by connecting a mobile wallet. In other words, the desktop client is for users who already have a cold wallet or mobile wallet and want to do DeFi operations on a bigger screen. If you do not have a wallet yet, starting with the desktop client will leave you stuck at step one.
About download sources: only download from rabby.io or official app stores. In 2024, a fake Rabby iOS app passed App Store review and caused user losses. The same applies to the browser extension. When searching "Rabby Wallet" in the Chrome Web Store, confirm the publisher is Rabby/DeBank. Do not download installation packages from third-party pages.
Creating, Importing, and Connecting a Hardware Wallet
After installation, open the extension. Rabby gives you two directions: create a new address or import an existing one.
If you choose Create New Address, you will set an unlock password and back up a seed phrase. These two things serve completely different purposes. The password only encrypts local data on the current device. If you forget it, you can reset Rabby and create a new one. The seed phrase is the root key that controls your address. Rabby does not store it. If your device breaks or browser data is lost, you cannot recover your address without the seed phrase. Do not screenshot your seed phrase or store it in cloud notes. Write it on paper or a metal plate and keep it offline.
If you choose Import Existing Address, Rabby supports seed phrases, private keys, and direct hardware wallet connections. If you are migrating from MetaMask or another EVM wallet, importing your seed phrase lets Rabby automatically scan for assets across EVM chains. You do not need to add networks manually one by one.
Connecting a hardware wallet is the key branch at this step. After selecting hardware wallet in the import screen, Rabby lists supported device brands. The extension natively supports the most brands, including Ledger, Trezor, OneKey, Keystone, GridPlus, and others. Using OneKey as an example, the flow is: click Connect Hardware Wallets, select the device brand, confirm the device is connected and unlocked, enter the device PIN, then choose the address to import. If Trezor users on the extension encounter Rabby repeatedly opening the Trezor Suite connection page, it is usually a loop caused by interaction with Trezor Suite during connection initialization. Try closing and reopening Trezor Suite first, then start the connection again.
One boundary to know: Rabby does not support non-EVM chains like Solana. If you have seen claims that Rabby supports Solana, those come from unofficial pages. Rabby's official documentation lists only EVM-compatible chains as the supported asset range.
Pre-Signing Verification: What Truly Sets Rabby Apart
After installation and connection, the most important daily action is not "clicking confirm" but understanding what the popup before signing is telling you.
Before every transaction or signature request, Rabby shows a simulation result. This simulation includes: which token balances will change after the transaction executes, by how much, which contracts are involved, and whether there are risk warnings. The value of this feature is that it translates on-chain transaction consequences into changes in your account balance before you act. If the simulation shows that an "airdrop claim" operation will transfer out a certain token, you can see that before pressing confirm.
But simulation is not a cure-all. One common situation: when you use dApp login (Sign-In With Ethereum) or revoke an approval, Rabby may show an "Unknown Signature Type" warning. This means Rabby could not fully decode what you are about to sign. It does not necessarily mean the signature is dangerous. For standard login signatures, this is usually safe to confirm. But if you do not understand the purpose of the current signature, or it comes from an unfamiliar website, pressing confirm without clear information defeats the protection Rabby provides.
A more reliable judgment order is: first check whether the simulation shows unexpected asset changes, then check whether the requesting domain is the site you actively visited, and finally confirm whether the signature type matches the operation you are performing. If the simulation looks normal, the domain is correct, and the operation matches, then press confirm.
Good Habits for Large Holdings
For users holding significant amounts, one repeatedly proven approach is: use a separate address for daily dApp interactions with only a small amount of assets. Keep large holdings in a hardware wallet address. Only connect the hardware device through Rabby to sign when truly necessary.
The logic is simple: even if you encounter a phishing approval or malicious contract during dApp interaction, the affected scope is limited to that "small interaction address." Assets in the cold wallet remain untouched. Rabby's simulation feature provides an extra layer of checking in this scenario, but only if you actually look at the simulation result before pressing confirm.
Also, Rabby's lock screen password and the hardware wallet's PIN are two separate credentials. Unlocking Rabby does not unlock your hardware device. You still need to confirm on the device when signing. If your Rabby is unlocked but the hardware device is locked, the signature request will wait for you to complete confirmation on the device.
