Mixing Records Trigger Deposit Review: How to Organize Your On-Chain Fund Trail

 /
3

Deposit reviews get stuck when exchanges see mixer records because coin mixers scramble the source path, making it impossible for compliance and risk systems to confirm the original source of funds. Mixers like Tornado Cash work by pooling many transactions together and then splitting them to new addresses, breaking the direct link between sender and receiver. When the risk system sees a mixer address upstream of your deposit address, it automatically flags "unknown source of funds." What you need to do is reorganize this scrambled fund trail into a traceable chain.

Step 1: Trace the transaction path backwards from your deposit address

Start by finding the preceding incoming transaction to your deposit address, then trace upstream layer by layer to see where the funds came from. Open a blockchain explorer, search for your deposit address, locate the most recent incoming transaction, record the sender's address, then open that sender's transaction history and continue tracing upward. Map out at least 3 to 5 steps of the fund flow chain until you reach an address with a clear, explainable source, such as an exchange hot wallet, a mining pool address, or another wallet you own.

Step 2: Label the identity of each address in the path

Clearly mark the role of every key address on the path so the reviewer can quickly verify. Based on the trace results, addresses can be grouped into four types:

  • Exchange wallet addresses: Label them with the withdrawal context, for example "Binance hot wallet withdrawal." Go to the exchange where the withdrawal originated, find the corresponding withdrawal TxID, and attach a screenshot of the withdrawal record.
  • Your other wallet addresses: Label as "personal wallet transfer." If further proof of ownership is required, provide a signature verification or a small test transaction as requested by the platform.
  • Mixer addresses: There is no need to deny that funds passed through a mixer. The key is to provide proof of the source before the funds entered the mixer. If the funds entered the mixer from an exchange or another explainable address, include that evidence.
  • Addresses that cannot be traced to an explainable source: These cases are more difficult and must be handled according to the deposit platform's compliance policy. You may need to submit an additional statement explaining the origin of the assets.

Risk reminder: If the fund path includes a sanctioned wallet address (for example, an address on the OFAC sanctions list), the deposit may still be rejected by the platform even after the funds have passed through a mixer. In such cases, you can usually only contact customer support, explain the situation, and provide earlier proof of source, but there is no guarantee the funds will be credited.

Step 3: Compile the evidence into a submission pack

Organize all the trace results into a clear, logical verification package. Take a screenshot of each sender/receiver page from the blockchain explorer, marking the direction of fund flow with arrows. If an exchange withdrawal is involved, attach a screenshot of the withdrawal record from your exchange account (showing the amount, time, and TxID). Next to each address, add a note explaining its identity. The final result should be a fully annotated fund flow chain.

Common reasons for rejection

Many users only submit the last transaction before the deposit without tracing further upstream. The reviewer needs to see the complete fund path; providing only the final hop will not pass verification. Another common problem: even when the path has been traced completely, the roles of different addresses are not clearly labeled, so the reviewer cannot determine who owns them, which also leads to the submission being rejected.

Next steps

Once you have organized the path, submit the materials in the format required by the platform. Some platforms allow you to upload attachments on the deposit verification page — simply submit screenshots and text explanations together. After submission, keep your contact methods available, as the review team may request additional details. If the mixer path is too deep (more than 5 hops) or involves addresses that cannot be explained, it is advisable to contact online support directly, explain the situation, and provide supplementary documents as instructed. Do not resubmit the same files repeatedly.
