Binance Keyless Wallet: What to Do If You Can't Find Your Cloud Backup After Switching Phones
First, confirm the three essential elements—your Binance account, cloud backup or QR code backup, and recovery password. All three are indispensable. If the cloud backup cannot be found, check permissions and login issues first. If there truly is no backup, the wallet assets cannot be recovered, because Binance cannot help you retrieve them either. If the backup still exists but you have forgotten the password, you can still attempt to crack it by brute force before reinstalling.
Step 1: Confirm That You Made a Backup – Cloud Backup or QR Code Backup
What to do: First, recall whether you previously made a wallet backup and which method was used.
How to do it:
Cloud backup: When backing up, you selected iCloud (Apple) or Google Drive (Android). The system encrypted your private key share and stored it in your cloud.
QR code backup: When backing up, the private key share was turned into a QR code and saved locally or to the Greenfield decentralized cloud service.
The Binance keyless wallet is essentially an MPC wallet. The private key is split into two shares – Binance holds one share, and you keep the other (as a backup QR code or cloud backup). Both are required.
What counts as done: You have identified the backup type (cloud/QR code) and whether the backup actually exists.
Step 2: Check the Specific Reasons Why the Cloud Backup Cannot Be Found
What to do: Go through each possible reason that the cloud backup cannot be read.
How to do it:
Situation A – Not logged into the corresponding cloud service: Apple devices must be logged into iCloud, and Android devices must be logged into a Google account. You also need to grant cloud storage access permission to the Binance app.
Situation B – Cloud storage permission not enabled: In the phone's system settings, check whether the Binance app has permission to access iCloud or Google Drive.
Situation C – Cross-device recovery restrictions: A wallet backed up using iCloud can only be restored on a device of the same type (iOS to iOS). To switch between platforms, you must use the QR code backup method.
Situation D – The Google account used for backup does not support Google Drive: Some region-specific Google accounts do not support Drive, which means the backup was never actually successful.
What counts as done: After checking each item, you have confirmed that the cloud backup does exist but cannot be read, or that the backup was never successfully created.
Step 3: If You Have a QR Code Backup, Bypass the Cloud Backup to Recover

On the wallet recovery page, select [QR Code Recovery].
Scan the backup QR code you saved previously.
Enter the recovery password (the password you set when backing up).
Complete the verification to restore the wallet.
What counts as done: The wallet is successfully recovered, and assets are visible and usable.
Key reminder: If both the backup QR code and the recovery password are available, losing the cloud backup is not a problem. The QR code can also complete the recovery.
Step 4: If You Have Neither a Cloud Backup Nor a QR Code – Confirm That Recovery Is Impossible
What to do: Confirm whether the wallet truly cannot be recovered.
How to do it:
Binance officially states: If a user did not back up the QR code or cloud backup, and does not have the recovery password, Binance has no way to help you retrieve the wallet.
The MPC mechanism of the keyless wallet means Binance only holds one share of the private key; you must keep the other share yourself.
The only exception: If you previously used "Quick Backup" (backed up via MFA + facial verification), recovery may not require the recovery password. However, Quick Backup still relies on a cloud backup to be recovered.
What counts as done: You have confirmed whether your situation falls into the "cannot be recovered" category. If it does, do not hold out false hope – this is a technical limitation.
Prerequisites
Before attempting recovery, confirm the following:
You are logged into the correct Binance account (the MPC wallet is one-to-one bound to your Binance account).
After switching phones, the app has been updated to the latest version.
If using an iOS device, confirm that iCloud storage has sufficient space and app permissions are enabled.
Common Reasons for Failure
Mistakenly believing Binance can custody your private key: The keyless wallet is not a custodial wallet. Binance does not store your full private key and cannot unilaterally help you recover it.
Used iCloud backup but switched to an Android device: Cross-platform recovery can only be done via the QR code method. iCloud backup is limited to iOS device recovery.
Recovery password remembered incorrectly: Binance does not store your recovery password. If you remember it wrong, you can only guess based on your memory; there is no reset channel.
Risk Reminders
Asset risk: For a wallet that was not backed up, assets will be permanently lost after switching phones or uninstalling the app. Assets are recorded on-chain, but they cannot be accessed without the private key share.
Account risk: If the backup QR code is leaked to others, the other party still needs your recovery password and Binance account to access the wallet, so the QR code itself is relatively safe.
The sign that you have completed recovery correctly: After successful recovery, go to [Wallet] - [Web3] and you will see the wallet balance and transaction history, with full functionality restored. If you have tried all methods and still cannot recover, log into the old device (if still accessible) and immediately perform an emergency export or create a new backup – this is your last window of opportunity. If the old device is no longer accessible, the wallet assets cannot be recovered. Note that Binance supports converting the keyless wallet to a private-key wallet and exporting the private key, but after conversion, recovery functionality will no longer be supported.
