What to Do When Binance Says Your Identity Is Already Used by Another Account
This message means the identity document you are trying to use is already linked to a different Binance account.
Binance enforces a strict "one person, one account" rule—one identity document can only verify one account. When you submit verification, the system instantly checks whether your ID number is already attached to another account. If it finds a match, your new verification request will be rejected outright.
Before you start: Check exactly what the System says
Before contacting support, do a quick check on the login page:
Try logging in with the email or phone number associated with your ID document. Many people forget they once registered an account. Use the "Forgot Password" flow to see if an account already exists.
Check whether a family member or someone close has used your identity. It's not uncommon for relatives to have used your details and accidentally linked them to another account.
Step 1: Identify which account the ID is linked to
Goal: Find out exactly which account your identity information is tied to.
How:
If it's an account you once registered but forgot, recover it using the bound email or phone number. Once logged in, you can simply continue using that account.
If the account does not belong to you—for example, you suspect your identity was used without your knowledge, or a family member inadvertently linked it—you cannot just reset the password. You'll need to go through the customer support appeal process.
Done when: You know whether the existing account is yours or someone else's.
Step 2 (Scenario A): If the existing account is your own
What to do: Log into the old account and either keep using it or replace the identity document on that account.
How:
Log into Binance with the email/phone number of the old account.
If you want to free up this ID for a new account, go to the Identity Verification page of the old account and submit an update request with a different identity document.
Once the old account's identity is changed, the original document is unlinked and can be used for your new account.
Done when: The old account's identity has been replaced, or you've decided to keep using the old account.
Step 2 (Scenario B): If the account is not yours
What to do: Submit an appeal to Binance Support stating that your identity has been used by someone else.
How:
Log into your Binance account (if possible), go to the Help Center and submit a ticket.
Follow the support agent's instructions and prepare these materials:
A photo of your own identity document (ID card / passport).
A video statement as instructed, holding your document and reading the required declaration aloud, clearly explaining the identity misuse.
Any supporting evidence you have (such as the email or phone number used for the old account), if available.
Wait for the review. Binance will verify your materials to confirm you are the legitimate holder of the document.
Done when: The ticket is submitted and all requested materials have been provided.
Common reasons for failure
Trying to create a duplicate account. Binance strictly prohibits multiple accounts per person. Even if support helps you unbind the identity, do not create a new duplicate account—it violates the Terms of Service and may lead to account restrictions.
Insufficient documentation. Incomplete video statements, blurry ID photos, or mismatched information will cause your appeal to be rejected.
Assuming you can instantly unbind and use the ID on a new account. Even after support resolves the identity occupation issue, the process may take several days and your account functions could be limited during that time.
Risk reminder
Never try to bypass verification with forged or altered KYC documents. Binance uses AI systems and cross-checks with government databases. Forged documents will be detected, and your account may face a permanent ban.
Each ID document can only be linked to one account. This is a core compliance rule. While resolving an occupied identity issue, be more conscious about protecting your document information.
How to confirm you've completed the process correctly
Log into your Binance account (or the original one if that's yours) and go to the Identity Verification page to check the status.
If it shows "Verified" or "Approved", the identity occupation problem is resolved and the account is fully verified.
If it says "Under Review", wait for support to complete their review.
If you receive a rejection notice, read the specific reason, add the missing documents, and resubmit.
