Will Binance Futures Grid Automatically Close Positions After Stopping?

Stopping a futures grid will not automatically close your positions—it only stops executing new grid trades, but the positions held at the time of stopping remain in your futures account and must be handled manually.

When terminating a grid, you have two options: auto-close positions, or manually close positions after the grid stops.

Prerequisites

  1. You have a running Binance futures grid and are ready to terminate it.

  2. You can view the status and positions of the current grid on the [Futures Grid] page.

  3. You know the quantity and direction of the positions you hold.

Step 1: Distinguish Between "Stop Strategy" and "Close Position"

Many users think "stop grid" equals "close all positions". In reality, these are two separate operations:

Stop Grid: The system stops placing new grid buy/sell orders, but does not automatically handle the positions you already hold. The contracts already bought remain in the account.

Close Position: Manually sell or buy back to close the held positions, converting them to USDT.

When terminating a grid, the system will clearly present two options in the interface:

  1. Auto-Close Positions: When terminating the grid, the system will immediately close all currently held positions at market price.

  2. Close Manually: Only stops the grid, positions remain in the futures account, and you can handle them later yourself.

Completion criteria: Confirm which option you chose, rather than assuming "everything is gone when stopped".

Step 2: If You Choose "Auto-Close Positions", Confirm the Closing Logic

After selecting "Auto-Close Positions", the system will immediately execute market close orders upon termination, closing all held positions.

Important Notes:

  • The closing order is a market order. In highly volatile markets, the execution price may deviate from the currently displayed price (slippage).

  • If the closing order cannot be fully filled due to insufficient liquidity, the system may return error 8011 (closing failed, unable to execute).

  • After closing is complete, funds will be automatically transferred back to the futures account.

Completion criteria: Confirm that the closing order has been filled and all positions are cleared.

Step 3: If You Choose "Close Manually", Handle Remaining Positions

After selecting this option, the grid stops and positions remain. You need to decide when to close them yourself.

Available closing methods:

  1. Market Close: Immediately close positions at the current market price.

  2. Limit Close: Set a target price and the position will be automatically closed when the price is reached.

Fund transfer time: Some users have reported that after stopping a grid, it takes around 30 seconds for funds to be transferred back to the futures account. During this time, prices may change, making it impossible to close at the ideal price.

Completion criteria: Positions are closed, and funds have returned to the available balance in the futures account.

Step 4: Note Other Restrictions After Stopping the Grid

After stopping the grid, if you originally used the grid to manage positions, note the following:

  • Cannot restore the original grid: Once terminated, a grid cannot be "restarted" to its previous state; you need to create a new grid.

  • No stop-loss function: After the grid stops, you can only manually place limit or market orders to close positions; you cannot set conditional orders for automatic stop-loss, so you must monitor the market yourself.

Completion criteria: Ensure you have a clear plan for closing positions, not "just leave it alone after stopping".

Common Reasons for Failure

Assuming "stop grid = auto close all"

This is the most common misunderstanding. Many users are surprised to find positions still in their account after stopping a grid. In reality, stopping a grid only terminates the "trading logic" and does not touch existing positions. If the "Auto-Close Positions" option is not selected, positions will remain in the futures account and must be handled manually.

Risk Warnings

  • Position risk remains after stopping: Stopping the grid does not eliminate risk; the held contract positions are still affected by market price fluctuations and may incur losses or be liquidated.

  • Grid may be forcibly suspended during system upgrades: During coin-margined contract upgrades, the grid trading function may be suspended, and orders will not be executed even if trigger conditions are met.

  • Ensure sufficient margin before manual closing: If positions are in loss after stopping the grid, the margin rate may be near the liquidation line; you need to close positions or add margin promptly.

How to Confirm Operation Completion

After stopping the grid, go to the [Positions] page in your futures account to check:

  1. If the position column shows "0" or is empty, the position has been fully closed.

  2. If there is still a position quantity displayed, it means the position has not been closed yet, and you need to continue processing according to the method you chose.

If you selected "Auto-Close Positions", check [Order History] to confirm that the closing order has been filled. If the order failed, contact customer support with your grid ID and anomaly details for assistance.
