Can SAP enterprises pay with USDC yet? The real progress of the Circle partnership

 /

SAP enterprises cannot yet pay directly with USDC. The partnership announced by Circle and Tereina, an SAP-backed financial services company, on October 7, 2026, does bring USDC and EURC into SAP's payment system. However, the current status is that the feature has been announced as integrated, but customer testing has not begun. Both parties clearly stated that they will launch joint proof-of-value programs with customers in the coming months. As of the time of verification for this article, there is no public evidence showing that any SAP enterprise customer has actually completed a USDC payment through SAP Pay.

What the partnership actually covers: SAP Pay, not SAP itself

It is important to distinguish between two entities. SAP is an ERP software provider, while Tereina is an SAP-backed financial services company that operates the payment functions within SAP Pay. Circle's partner is Tereina, not SAP directly. The integration of USDC and EURC is going into SAP Pay, a payment solution embedded in SAP Cloud ERP.

SAP's own product documentation shows that SAP Pay already supports ACH, wire transfers, checks, electronic funds transfers, and USDC stablecoin payments. It can also execute USDC payments through pre-integrated Circle Mint accounts. This means the functional framework already exists. Circle's press release adds EURC to this framework and expands the scope of USDC usage. But "supported" and "actually used by enterprises" are two different things.

Why it is not ready yet: testing has not started

The joint statement from Circle and Tereina is carefully worded. The two parties plan to launch customer proof-of-value programs, train treasury and payment specialists, and work with ecosystem partners to bring stablecoin payments into broader enterprise transformation plans in the coming months. CoinMarketCap's report also noted that the two sides "plan to conduct customer proof-of-value programs in the coming months."

Proof-of-value means enterprises test the feature in a controlled environment, not a full rollout. Until the test results are available and both parties decide to expand implementation, ordinary SAP enterprise customers cannot simply enable USDC payments in SAP Pay. The press release did not disclose any participating customer names, expected transaction volumes, or a timeline for full commercial deployment.

The 84% figure needs to be understood correctly

The press release repeatedly mentions that the SAP ecosystem "covers 84% of global commerce." This figure comes from SAP's own corporate materials and refers to the share of global commercial activity handled by SAP customers. It does not represent the actual adoption scale of stablecoins. Digital Today's report pointed this out: the 84% figure "does not represent the actual adoption scale of stablecoins." Interpreting it as "USDC is about to enter 84% of global commerce" is an overstatement. What is being connected is a massive enterprise software ecosystem, but actual usage depends on how many customers choose to enable the feature and whether test results support broader rollout.

What signal would show that it is actually usable

To determine whether SAP enterprises can truly pay with USDC, at least one specific signal is needed: at least one named SAP customer publicly confirming that it has completed a USDC payment through SAP Pay, or Circle/Tereina issuing a commercial rollout announcement after proof-of-value completion. Until then, the feature is in an "integrated but pending verification" state. If your company is evaluating this path, the more realistic approach is to contact SAP or Tereina to ask about participating in the upcoming proof-of-value programs, rather than assuming the feature is already available.
