A cross-chain aggregator lists a bunch of routes for you. Some are cheaper, some are faster. But here is the reminder: the "safest" route is never the one with the lowest price or the fastest speed. The first safety checkpoint is to see whether the "bridge" behind that route has any problems.

We have already seen many cross-chain bridge attack incidents. Some led to hundreds of millions of dollars in losses due to hacker attacks, and others were drained directly because of malicious contract vulnerabilities. So when choosing a route, you cannot just look at the surface data.

Step 1: Check the background of the "bridge" itself, not just its name

Most aggregators only show a label like "via Bridge X." What you need to do before selecting it is to confirm whether that "Bridge X" itself is reliable.

Step 2: Be aware of the extra risk brought by the "aggregator" itself

You are choosing a "multi-step route planned by the aggregator." This means your funds may flow through multiple protocols. One more step means one more layer of risk.

[How to do it]: Among the routes given by the aggregator, try to choose the one with the fewest transfers. For example, a direct bridge (1 step) is usually safer than "Chain A to Chain B to Chain C" (2 steps). Every step involves contract interaction, and every step has a risk of failure or funds getting stuck. That small gas fee difference is not worth taking on one more contract risk.

This standard sounds a bit counterintuitive, but it works well when it comes to cross-chain transactions.
