Can't Find Your Passkey Wallet After Switching Phones? Check the Synced Account First

Can't find your Passkey wallet after switching phones? Don't panic. In most cases, as long as you had cloud sync enabled on your old phone (iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager), simply logging into the same Apple ID or Google account on your new phone will restore it directly.

Step 1: Check if cloud sync was enabled on your old phone

First, determine which case applies to you. This directly determines whether you can recover your wallet.

  • Case A: iCloud Keychain (iPhone) or Google Password Manager (Android) sync was enabled on your old phone. This is the easiest case to recover from. Your Passkey is synced to your personal cloud account using end-to-end encryption. Apple and Google cannot read it, but you can restore it after authentication.

  • Case B: Your old phone did NOT have the above cloud sync enabled, and you did not set up the additional "Account Recovery" feature. In this case, the Passkey existed only in the secure chip of your old device, and cannot be recovered after switching phones.

High Risk: If you are in Case B and did not previously link an imToken App wallet as a recovery key via imToken Web's "Account Recovery" feature, then that wallet account and its assets will be permanently lost. There is no other way to reset or recover them.

  • Case C: Cloud sync was not enabled on your old phone, but you set up "Account Recovery" in advance. You can reset your account by signing an on-chain transaction using the pre-linked imToken App wallet. The recovery process has a 72-hour lockout period, during which you can cancel the operation if the old phone is still online.

Step 2: Try logging in on your new phone and check the synced account

If you are sure you're in Case A, follow these steps.

  1. Sign into the same cloud account: On your new phone, make sure you are signed into the exact same Apple ID or Google account that was used when creating the Passkey.

  2. Visit imToken Web: Use a supported browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) and open https://web.token.im.

  3. Choose to log in: Click the menu in the upper right corner, select "Log in" → "Log in with Passkey".

  4. Complete biometric verification: The system will list the Passkeys synced under that cloud account. Select the corresponding account name, then complete Face ID or fingerprint verification to log in. Success Standard: After a successful login, the account address and asset balances should match those on your old phone. If no Passkeys appear in the list, it means your old phone may not have synced successfully (i.e., you are in Case B or C).

Step 3: If login fails, check if "Account Recovery" was set up

If you can't find any Passkeys when selecting "Log in with Passkey" on your new phone, but you had previously set up the "Account Recovery" feature, you can use the backup method.

  1. On the imToken Web login page, click "Lost Passkey?".

  2. Select "Log in with imToken Wallet".

  3. Follow the prompts, connect the imToken App wallet that you linked when you set up recovery, and complete the signature verification. Success Standard: After verification, the page will guide you to generate a new Passkey, and a 72-hour waiting period will begin. Once the lockout period ends, you can log in with the new Passkey.

Common reasons for failure

  • Inconsistent cloud account: The Apple ID or Google account logged in on the new phone is different from the one used to create the Passkey. This is the most common pitfall.

  • Android device manufacturer limitations: Some Android phones (such as Huawei, Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO) have varying levels of Passkey support and may not be able to create or recover normally on imToken Web. It's best to confirm new device compatibility before switching phones.

  • Passkey was deleted: If you accidentally deleted the corresponding entry in your phone's "Passwords" or "Passkey" management settings, it also cannot be recovered.

After completing the operation

  • Verification method: After logging in successfully, confirm that the account address in the upper right menu matches exactly, and check that the token balances on the "My Assets" page are correct.

  • Next steps: If you reset via the "Account Recovery" process, you need to wait for the 72-hour lockout period to end before you can use the new Passkey for transactions. During this period, pay attention to login notifications on the original device — if someone tries to maliciously reset, you have the right to cancel the request.
