Why Binance Copy Trading Account Is Separate from Spot Balance
The separation of the copy trading account and spot balance is determined by the design of the Binance account system — copy trading uses an independent account system, and its funds do not affect your Binance spot balance. This structure prevents assets from being withdrawn, transferred, or used for other trading operations while a copy trade is active. It also isolates risk, so any abnormal events will not impact your spot funds.

The copy trading account works like a "sub-account". Once you transfer funds from your spot account into it, they remain separate until the copy trading stops. Below are the operational rules and instructions.
Prerequisites
You have activated the copy trading feature on Binance.
You have allocated funds to your copy trading account.
You simultaneously hold other assets in your spot account.
Step 1: Understand the Independence of the Copy Trading Account
Binance's official FAQ states clearly: "Copy trading uses an independent account system, and the account funds do not affect your Binance spot balance."
To ensure that spot copy trading is not interrupted, copy traders must enter the amount they wish to allocate to a copy trading portfolio. The funds will be transferred from their Spot Wallet to the Spot Copy Trading Wallet.
The purposes of this segregation include: functional separation, risk management, and easier asset tracking.
Completion criteria: Understand that the copy trading account and spot account are two independent accounts, and funds are held separately.
Step 2: Learn How Funds Move in the Copy Trading Account
Fund transfers:
When you start copy trading, funds are automatically moved from your spot account into the copy trading portfolio.
When copy trading ends, funds are automatically returned to your spot account.
Fund lock-up:
During copy trading, you cannot withdraw assets directly from the Spot Copy Trading Wallet.
This prevents assets from being misappropriated or used for other operations while copy trading is active.
Completion criteria: Know clearly that funds are locked in an independent account during copy trading and cannot be directly withdrawn or used for spot trading.
Step 3: Confirm Why the Balance Appears Under "Copy Trading" Instead of "Spot"
The total balance you see in your Binance asset overview is the sum of your spot account and copy trading account. However, when you expand the details, the copy trading funds appear in a separate copy trading portfolio and are not listed in the spot account.
You can check this as follows:
Go to [Trade] → [Copy Trading] → [Spot].
On the [My Portfolios] or [Portfolio] page, view your copy trading account balance.
Return to [Wallet] → [Spot Account]; this balance will not appear there.
Completion criteria: Be able to locate the corresponding funds on the spot account page and the copy trading account page separately.
Step 4: Learn How to Transfer Funds Back from the Copy Trading Account to Spot
To retrieve the funds from the copy trading account, you need to:
Stop copy trading: On the portfolio page, select [Stop Copying].
Automatic return by the system: After you stop copy trading, the system will automatically return the funds to your spot wallet.
Token handling rules
Token balances exceeding 10 USDT will be converted to USDT and returned to your spot wallet.
Token balances below 10 USDT will be returned to your spot wallet in the original token.
Note: Tokens with low liquidity may take longer to process and sell.
If you need to manually adjust the balance, you must first close the active portfolio, then click [Adjust Balance] to add or remove funds.
Completion criteria: Know how to properly end copy trading and move funds back to your spot account.
Common Reasons for Failure
Misconception: Assuming you can directly withdraw or trade assets in your copy trading account during an active copy trade
Many users see the balance in the copy trading account and assume they can withdraw it or use it for other trades at any time, just like a spot account. In reality, funds are isolated and locked during copy trading and cannot be directly operated on. You must end the copy trade, after which the system will automatically return the funds to your spot account.
Risk Reminders
Copy trading assets are not counted in the spot balance: When checking your spot balance, do not mistakenly think that funds "have disappeared"; they are simply transferred to a separate copy trading portfolio.
Ensure no open orders before ending copy trading: If there are still open orders, you need to cancel them before you can close the portfolio.
Minimum copy trading balance requirement: The minimum required balance for a copy trading portfolio is 10 or 100 USDT (depending on whether you use fixed-amount or fixed-ratio copy mode).

How to Confirm the Operation Is Complete
Go to [Trade] → [Copy Trading] → [Spot], and check your "My Portfolios" page. If the balance shown there is positive, it means the copy trading funds are operating normally in the independent account.
When you want to confirm that funds have been returned to spot, after stopping copy trading, check whether the balance in [Wallet] → [Spot Account] has increased. If the funds have been returned, the operation is complete.
